In 1955, when Bill Haughton was about the same age Tetrick is now, and was in the middle of that title streak, he trained about fifty horses. By 1958, and approaching the top of that streak, Haughton had doubled the size of his stable and employed six assistant trainers. And later on, he would double that figure. In other words, his opportunities were rapidly expanding during that period when the sport was trending up. Tetrick, on the other hand, had fewer wins this year than last, and fewer in 2010 than in 2009. Haughton

Tim Tetrick is the real deal. I've known him since almost birth, and he is all he seems to be.

I gave him several winning mounts when he was starting out in IL and he never forgot it. When he started getting big, he had to take other horses over mine to get locked into bigger stables. I never resented it one bit because that's what he needed to do to get to the top level. He would always come to see me in the pddock and apologize for not taking my horse when that happened. I always told him to not worry about it, and grab for the Brass Ring!

He was right when he said he grew up working hard... all those kids and their folks did. I wish him the best in re-writing the record books on driving. I've never seen him give one a "cold drive"... he's trying everytime his butt hits that seat.
