Always B Miki underwent surgery for a P-1 (long pastern) fracture of his left hind on Monday morning. Dr. Patty Hogan performed the surgery on the 3-year-old colt who was scratched lame from the Breeders Crown after exhibiting lameness while in the post parade and scoring down before the race.

"Dr. Hogan used four screws to repair the fracture and said she was very optimistic about the colt returning to the races at 100 percent of his ability," said Mitchel Skolnick, who shares ownership of the colt. "We have every reason to be optimistic, and we're thankful that whatever caused him to suffer the injury, that it showed up before he raced."

Skolnick added that Dr. Hogan said the colt by Always A Virgin would need 30-day stall rest and 30 days of hand walking, or on an Equi-Cizer, before he resumes training for a 2015 campaign.--harnessracing.com
