Hal's Bad Luck
« on: April 05, 2013, 07:49:51 AM »
It started on my vacation.  Come back to our hotel last Sunday and there is a note in the room.  No electricity for 8 hours from 12-8 .  No water no nothing.  We say screw it and call the next hotel we were going to stay at and book a room for that night and have to move at 10pm.  The next morning, we read there was a fire in the hotel and everyone was evacuated to a local high school!
So, it's a good thing we moved!  Then the heater/cooling fan on my new car goes haywire.  Have to take car to a local dealer to fix.  They have to order parts and we have to bring it back later. At least they provided us with a loaner car.  Then, my wife says she wants to visit the Supreme Court.  We get there and are caught in the pro-anti gay marriage protests.  One one side of me some guy dressed like a devil woman is dancing wearing a rainbow tutu and a fishnet top.  On the other side of me are nuns kneeling in prayer. I get home late Saturday evening to find that my hot water heater burst and flooded the basement.. There goes all my carpeting, baseboard and quarter round, along with a few doors.  At least the insurance will pay the cost of the clean up and to replace the stuff. (minus the deductable, of course.
Yesterday, i played cards at a buddy's house that is 12 minutes from Maywood Park.  So I decide to take in the races.  Get to the last race and I'm down maybe $12, not bad.  I put my voucher in the machine and then my winning ticket from the last race.  The ticket gets stuck in the machine and I can't play anything.  This is with maybe 3 minutes to post.  The only workers around are the tellers on the other side of the grandstand.  The service button doesn't work.  The race goes off and I walk across the grandstand to tell the tellers to call the tote guys.  I get my voucher and ticket back , but the race is over!  I would have won about $750!!  So I go home down $12. :'( :'( :'(

I still always use a teller. Id be afraid of things like this and hitting wrong buttons.

The machines at RCR not always in the best condition either.

There were only 2 tellers and the lines were long.  Never have much trouble at Balmoral. And, the tote room isn't far from where I bet, so I can just stick my head in the door and ask for help. Does this ever happen and it turns out you would have lost??? :'( :'( :'(

Sounds like a heckuva time, Hall!  Look at the upside though - things have GOT TO GET BETTER!

Don't sound like anything a few nice tickets would make you forget.  ;)

Nobody can pick horses (that can win if he doesn't bet them) like Careless Hal, laddies. Nobody. Not CyberChamp, not Chicago Jazz, not Tony B., not Pezz, not the Skipper....not even Racetrack Phil.

Nobody!
