Fearless Diablo used a powerful closing kick to capture the finals of the Bobby Weiss series for 3-and-4-year-old colts, horses, and geldings on the pace on Tuesday night at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. The race carried a purse of $30,000.
Leaving from post position #6 in a field of nine, Fearless Diablo settled seventh around the first turn as Three Artist took the field to the quarter in a quick 26:4. The pace stayed hot as Midas Blue Chip took over the lead at 3/8. In the front stretch, driver Corey Callahan, making a cameo appearance at Pocono for trainer Dylan Davis, tipped Fearless Diablo to the outside and picked up cover from Ideal Champ.
Midas Blue Chip kept the pace hot, hitting the half in 54:4 and three-quarters in 1:23:1. Ideal Champ came up alongside the leader on the final turn, while Fearless Diablo spun out three-wide to get a clear look.
