You are more than likely right, they just seem to be really punishing the Horsemen.  The NW4 has been filling every week, it was written as such in the condition sheet and then it fills as a NW5 with all of the same NW4 horses except two that have been racing out east.  Those 2 are the favorites.  The open has to be pretty frustrating for some of these guys as well.  This week they assigned 1-5 and 8-9 while drawing 7,8,10.  That in itself make little sense but you then have horses given the 1-2-3 hole that are significantly lower on the morning line than the 10 horse.  They were at one time writing NW9kL4, NW17500L4 and the open, all filling.  When they stopped the NW175000 the NW9k jammed up with AE's and the open started going with 100 horses.  I would think 1 freaking pace could be sacrificed for the upper condition trotters.

It just strikes me how much PA and Indiana write state preferred conditions making it damn near impossible to get in but Ohio has opened the boarders wide.

Fed up with the race secretary at Scioto.  Hoosier, The Meadows, and Northfield all write more trots in 1 night than Scioto does in a whole week. They are putting 10 in the open because they refuse to write the class below.  On top of that the conditions sheet stated NW4 (which has had 10 every week) but it was filled as a NW5 after the fact.  This screams 'good old boys club'.  All the stuff about why the industry has new customer issues, well here is a reason.  Complete lack of transparency.

What is the deal with the Scioto Downs race secretary.  Last week only 8 of the 49 (16%) races were trots.  Compare this to The Meadows (22 of 47), Hoosier (19 of 41) and Northfield (16 of 54).  All greater than 30%.  This has been the trend all year with a complete lack of any creativity.  No mini series, no 2 year old Ohio preferred, etc.

Any of the Ohio guys know what is going on with the 2 year old pacing filly Bell Flower.  The Ohio Development fund website has set her down (1st placed 8th) in the last sire stake and eliminated her earnings and points.  The owner/trainer has also been returned to Fred Huff and co from Arledge.  I also heard guys saying that the state fair money for her division hasn't been paid out.  Very curious

I think it speaks to how tough the racing in Indiana and Ohio is right now.  Both Natural Herbie and Southwind Pepino stepped up over a 2nd from Hoosier and Scioto.  Those east coast tracks are just a little different

It matters zero. By the time they get to the races they are what the lines say they are.  I do think, especially with trotters, pedigree makes a jump from 2 to 3.  That is why you see horses the last few years in Ohio (In The Grippers) start getting hung up in 58.  That is what her pedigree says she should be.  Every pacer has a family member in their book that has a record of 48 or 49.  Look at the freak Bell Flower in Ohio.  You could have bought her at Delaware as a weanling for 2500.  Ever heard of Fly Fly Buckeye.

Early last week Jack fell at his home and broke a few ribs.  For what ever reason that just pushed him into a spiral that ended with him passing on Thursday night/Friday morning.  This was extremely unexpected as Jack for the most part was getting along fine for a 79 year old man. 

I am very close to the Greeno's and while many may not like them they are all in all good family people.  Ed is having an extremely hard time having lost his mother late last year and now his brother who he is very close to.  Jack came to the barn almost daily and was extremely excited about their recent sire stake win.  He has been teaching Jr. how to shoe over the last 10 years and to be honest he has gotten very good.  Driving is one thing but that group has always done a good job bringing along young trotters without much pedigree and Jack was a big reason for it.

The viewing is Sunday from 1-5 at Colden Crates Funeral Home in Findlay with the Funeral on Monday at the Upper Room Church of God beginning at 11 in case anyone wondered.
