General Harness Racing Discussion / Former Maywood Park President Dead
« on: January 12, 2017, 01:29:45 PM »
Back in the day when Chicago harness racing was Grade A entertainment, a thoroughbred guy who helped put the Arlington Million on the map turned Maywood Park into "The Friendly Track" and created the Windy City Pace in 1983, his only year at Maywood.

RIP Shel.

I read his comments for this weekend. I thought since  he's been a public handicapper for years, we could expect more.

Really no insight to what he writes - offers nothing more than what's known if you can read a charted line.

While he's a step up from the very vanilla James W., Dave's comments don't have as much bite as what DZ wrote.

Agree or disagree?

So it now takes $7500 claimers and nw $3000 last 5 to get full fields to go at Freehold North.

I spot a few in some of the better races:

Race 1 - I iike #5 K-Lees Shakenbake right back.  Not much of a class bump, plus can make cases against the other six. With 7-6-1.

Race 5 - Lots of early speed in here and Pansformative's price will be closer to 7-5 than the 7-2ML. But there is the chance this horse has been Pletcher-ized (Chicago fans know this term). The better value is #8 Kingofthejungle; however, McCarthy needs to make a well-timed move like he did 2 starts ago. With 4-1-9.

Race 7 - #6 Rockin Wizard is a logical choice with the class drop. Sheds Ginsburg and Marohn for Tetrick; hope he hasn't forgotten how to win. With 1-8-3.

Race 9 - Simply throw out that last race for #1 Invictus Hanover. Maybe Campbell thought he was going to find cover but it didn't happen. Gets the rail and a lukewarm field. With 7-4-10.

Race 11: The #7 Rockeyed Optimist vs. #5 Dovuto Hanover rematch. The former has 2 push button wins and gets Tetrick back. The latter is getting close to breaking through for the first time this year...but not tonight. Only question is will Rocky offer a better win price than the $5 Exacta payoff?

Good luck to everyone playing tonight.

Thanks Champ. The horse showed a love for this track a year ago, and can you image what he would do with Hawthorne's stretch?

Also helped that A. Nap gave him a confident drive. He was on fire last night with Tetrick, Gingras, Callahan and B. Miller all out of town.

Saturdays at The Meadowlands ain't what they used to be, but I have some spot plays:

Race 6 - I agree w/Mags on #9 Burkentine Hanover. Can't come from last and should find live cover. With 5-6-2.
Race 8 - #6 K-Lees Shakenbake drops and should fly late when the speed hits the wall. With 1-5-7.
Race 9 - #9 Invictus Hanover offers lot of value. Beat better in Jan. and drops out of a key race. With 2-6-5.

It's a moot point now.

Snow Armageddon is on the way with a forecast of 20 inches of snow starting after midnight

So they have already posted blizzard warnings, with 8-12 inches of snow and winds near 50 mph expected for Saturday.

Two questions coming to mind:

1. Do you bother handicapping the card or just figure the track will be closed?

2. What's your best snow story and what did you have to endure getting to or home from the track?

If Hal takes the one time cash payment on $1.5 billion, that equals about $900 million.

After he buys Balmoral, that should leave him with $899 million and change, right?

No Cubs No: now 107 years and counting.

Imagine what would happen if you had a losing streak like that at the track...

Yep, for the most part the Sox have been boring and hard to watch this season. That's hard to say as a lifelong Sox fan but true, and nowhere close to resembling the group of guys who won the World Series in 2005.

But if you're bored when Chris Sale is on the mound, you ain't living right.

He's just as good as Gibson, Koufax, Drysdale, Marichal and Sudden Sam McDowell were in their day as strikeout kings.

How does a bad team with an inconsistent offense, incredibly bad defense, lack of baseball smarts and leadership, and an overmatched manager outscore a team 26-5 and sweep a four game series on the road in a town where they haven't done it in 10 years?

Thanks Cleveland, the cellar is all yours.

What a great parade, never gets old.

Hope they can repeat next year.

General Harness Racing Discussion / Cleveland on Suicide Watch?
« on: June 18, 2015, 08:49:52 AM »
Tuesday night LeBron and the Cavs watch Golden State celebrate their first championship in 40 years... in Cleveland.

Last night the Cubs destroyed the Indians 17-0. Two touchdowns and a field goal, maybe it was the Browns.

What's next?

What, no hockey fans left on this board?

Three Cups in six years. Given this is the salary cap era, that qualifies as a D-Y-N-A-S-T-Y.

Who's going to the parade on Thursday?

Thoroughbreds / Jimmy Fallon's Kentucky Derby

Ran his own race with puppies on the Wednesday night broadcast.

Obviously was taped prior to the post position draw so don't go by the numbers.

Only showed the top 3 finishers so rerun it if you are playing Superfectas.

Only had 16 of the top contenders - maybe they couldn't find 4 others?  Click here to see it:
