Really nothing to not like. Gural does one hell of a job running the place, and is responsive to what his customers want.

 thumbsup

The fact that John Campbell isn't given a head start ;)

THE ONLY BAD THINGS HAVE BEEN SOME COMMENTARY, BUT MOST OF US KNOW WHAT WE LIKE BEFORE THEY SAY ANYTHING.

THE ONLY ONE I GIVE ANY LISTEN TO IS SAM MCKEE WHEN HE IS CALLING RACES, I LEARNED YEARS BACK THAT SAM IS PRETTY SHARP AND KNOWS A LIVE HORSE ON THE TRACK, PLUS HE SITS UP THERE WITH A PERFECT VIEW.

HE HAS HIT SOME GOOD ONES.

I HOPE THE ADDED PICK 3 POOLS GET BURIED WITH HANDLE AND MAKE THEM GREAT VALUE.

I like John and don't believe there's a finer individual in the sport.

Despite John's extended success, he doesn't get the live drives he once did.
Many of the others simply have his number (hell his tactics were published over and again for all to read).
That his tactics are so well-known limits John;s possibility for surprise, thus he has few choices for new tactics, not to mention the old tactics being second nature.

I like the fact that Gural is keeping scumbags like Josh Marks away from the track.

You never see that quarter pole move anymore that he used to use.   Idk if its the stock he is driving or like you said that door is slammed shut by the other drivers.

I don't know if them banked turns were worth the money or effort. I also don't know if they messed with

the 1st turn but it seems like they are a lot of times crossing over they have a few horses almost hook

wheels and I've seen this at least a 1/2 dozen times. I also don't like the supers at different amounts.

I think possibly a little of both.
These days, all John has to do in a race is flinch, and it seems that somebody has figured out his next move and is already moving.

Agree...the one that stuck out was the only race that Simpson won...Looked like he and TT on a 4/5 shot for Farley, I think, either hooked wheels or Simpson cut him off and the Inquiry sign came on,  Surprisingly They left Simpson up.  I didn't think he did anything wrong but it was Simpson against TT on the stone cold chalk...

I have seen horses win from places they could not win from in the first 2 weeks that you have not seen the past 3 years. So I would say the banked turns are going to be fine.

As for the Supers, that all changes tomorrow, races 3,5,7,9,10 all a dime and that is the only supers. . Also a pick 3 in race 2 and 5 as well as the last 3 .

He listens to what his customers want and that is so Awesome!  thumbsup

We pretty much know everyone's style.  Sears is going to give tucks & fish out cover, Brennan comes out hard at you & let's them fly...  I don't see Campbell as being handicapped by knowing his strategy.  Did we not all know that Carmine wanted the top?  Or Loosh for that matter?

I like the way Jeff is trying to change things but I don't think dictating to the world's best drivers how to drive is a good or proper thing.  Positives include banishment of Pena & friends, resurrection of heat racing for the Hambo; would like to see more heat racing.  Driver's Challenges are always fun & competitive; I hope Jeff will add one or two of those.

Don, Don, Don.  When did you become such a troublemaker (driven by Bruce Reigle); where did I say JC was OTH?  True, I say it every year but y'know, I will be right eventually.  idunno

I dislike the amount of time between post parade and the start of the race.  I appreciate the race starting "on time", but I believe the post parade should be moved up a few minutes to compensate.

My process has always been to cap the race, check the odds, watch the post parade, check the odds again, determine where the value is (win vs. exotics vs. pick3), go to the window and place my bets.  With the races starting "on time", there is barely enough time to scroll through the exacta probables after the post parade and before the race starts.  Then when I see my desired exacta paying little, I'm scrambling to figure out what my move should be (because it isn't the exacta).

Even when I'm playing online, I'm find that I have just enough time to get my bets in.  Maybe I'm retarded or need to change my process or both, but I'd hate to change what has worked for me - so I prefer that the post parade be moved up a few minutes.

Champ, I think right now, the shortened Post Parades have been due to the weather.

Simulcasting has an effect on post times as well.

A few tracks are coordinating their post times so as to increase wagering, while not being in conflict with other simulcast post times.

LIKES:

-DZ's comments and morning line are leading to better payoffs for cappers like us.  (Okay, I promise that this is the last time that I will bash DZ.  He's a good kid and I'll give him a chance.)

-Ron Pierce not being around.  Can't believe that someone asked him to SPEAK in Sweden.   rflmao1

DISLIKES:

-Are they no longer posting the "drivers' choices" on the M1 website?

-Poor IT support.  How many times have we seen the wrong winners on the payout screen, or payout screen popping up while the race is still running, or showing $0.10 super payouts when only $1 supers were offered.

Dislike:

1. Overall quality of horses and races.
2. Driving colony isn't nearly what it used to be.
3. No rolling Pick 3's.
4. Darin Zoccali being a part of it.

Like:

Well it's still open so I guess there is always hope that it can be turned into what it used to be.

Likes: Pierce's short absence. (He married a Swedish girl last year and went over there to drive 3 and present an award.)

They are still in business!

Hambo going back to a heat format!

Dislikes:  Wendy Ross being in.  I susoect her working cheap is a real enticement for Gural. She doesn't even know who Jay Randall is, for Christ's sake!!!!  I could make a rather inappropriate comment about Gural's facial fuzz but I'll refrain.

Hollywood Heyden being out. He is a walking encyclopedia of both baseball and harness racing...he's been on the payroll since 1983, picks as many winners as the other guys  and deserves to be a part of the team.

Dave Brower is a like/dislike.  He was forced into a bad spot making the odds line and selecting races. Reading his book on handicapping, I found he handicapped races in hindsight. But he's paid his dues and should have been treated better.

I really like this guy who bets $2000.00 to win on 3 horses in the same race.....he might as well go ahead and file for bankruptcy!

Heyden, I agree but you need to move Brower's departure to "like".  They had to eliminate people & cut back & he was horrendous.  I agree that he's a nice guy but there are no harness tracks that can afford to keep "nice guys" who don't earn their keep.

The fact that the Clairvest Group has made a commitment to invest $20 million in the Meadowlands is a very good sign that the track will be ready to max out their opportunity when gaming is approved.

Dislike....

The banking hasn't changed much from last year....FAVORITES still dominate, like they did last year.....

Last Saturday, 5 odds on winners, 9 of the 12 races had the Favorite in the Exacta...same thing last night.....8 of the 11 winners 3-1 or less....

Of course, some people don't mind this.......sucks for me,lol

As for Brower, he was treated just fine....all I can say is his leaving wasn't just the meadowlands doing.....

Until the CHALK stops dominating....there are no Likes.....all I can say is Thank God for Woodbine.........

I also miss the winner circle lady (the one that gave the drivers a piece of candy) she seemed to relate

to the horses better than this new one.
