Heats Return in 2013; Hambletonian Maturity Race Added
An agreement to host the Hambletonian, the flagship event at The Meadowlands Racetrack for 30 years, has been finalized between leaseholder Jeff Gural and the Hambletonian Society, which owns and administers the Hambletonian Stake. A new race for four-year-old trotters, the Hambletonian Maturity, has also been created.
The Hambletonian is the preeminent event in harness racing, and has routinely set North American industry handle and attendance records since moving to the Meadowlands in 1981.

Excellent move. But, does that mean "only" 2 heats? That would mean that there could still be 3, 4 or 5 different winners (depending on the number of elimination races). Better but still not the tradition of winning 2 heats the same day.
But I guess a 3rd heat for the winners would eliminate network coverage for all 500 of us who watch it.

And the twenty or so that might wager on a 3rd heat ;)

It really sounds like just 2 heats only. Elims to be held on the same day instead of the week before then the Final.
