Title: My horses tonight - the skinny
Post by: Mr. B on January 07, 2012, 03:37:23 PM
My 2 are in tonight in early races.

Stanza is in race 3.  Drew #7 in 7-horse field.  He's been off  since Dec 16th, and had a curb freeze-fired on Dec 18th.  He will be sitting last off the gate and looking to get brought into the race by a good cover flow.  I expect that to happen, and there is a strong north wind today, which will be in the leaders face down the backstretch.  I wouldn't expect him to win, but you never know how a race goes.  I would be very happy with an ITM finish after the time off.

Yiannoulas Boy is in the 5th, same horses he faced last week when he was 2nd at 9-1.  He will also be looking for a cover trip, as he should be able to follow Redstar Popeye, who will come 1st up after breaking in the pocket last week.  Yianni could win, but if Shoot The Works get's a real easy 1st half as he usually does, he is tough to catch.  I do know that we will be in a better spot at the top of the stretch this week than we were last week, and he closed a ton then.  I think he can win for sure, but it all depends on the pace of the race, as usual.  :-)

5th race Cal-Expo

The pace was a joke and Shoot The Works cut the mile

28.3-59.2-1:28:0-1:59:2.

YB ran well and closed well from off the pace to come 3rd.

An owner who can trip handicap the races. I like it.(http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g387/secretariat3/smiley-greet009.gif)

Yeah, YB came home in :27 and it wasn't good enough.  I thought the stiff head wind on the backstretch would be STW's undoing, but that horse is tough as nails.  Next time, hopefully we are sitting in the pocket behind STW.   ;D   The 1:55.3 mile for the race was clearly the fastest of the night.

Stanza, on the other hand, needed the race badly, and should be better next week, hopefully from an inside post.
