Step aside, Botox Mom.here's another candidate for parenting award of the year.
"Human Barbie" Sarah Burge gave her daughter Poppy a $10,000 voucher for breast augmentation surgery for her seventh birthday, UK tabloid Closer reports.
Sarah explained, "Poppy begged me for a boob job, so I gave her the voucher so she can have it after she's 16, when it's legal. If she develops naturally big boobs, she can have something else done with it." Sounds like a reasonable, open-ended gift. Poppy, for her part, said, "I can't wait to be like Mummy with big boobs. They're pretty."
Poppy also received a computer, pink Swarovski crystal ring and matching necklace and a spa weekend from her mother.
The 50-year-old has supposedly dropped more than $800,000 on her own plastic surgeries and plans to have her daughter watch her next series of treatments, slated for later this year. Burge remarked, "I want Poppy to see what will happen. Some people think it's controversial and I get angry when strangers say I'm a bad mother because I don't think there's any harm in giving her this gift."
She added, "Poppy is a normal kid who is good at sports and loves playing outside. Girls don't want Snow White and Cinderella any more....I'm just supporting her and making her dreams come true."
And, really, isn't that all a mother can do?

A UK mom found a unique Christmas gift for her 7-year-old daughter: a gift certificate good for 7,000 pounds worth of liposuction. 51-year-old Sarah Burge, self-dubbed "Human Barbie," gifted daughter Poppy with birthday breast augmentation vouchers, too. Parents and psychologists are questioning mom's judgment, says ABC News. Here are details about early sexualization of children by parents and in media and why child health experts are concerned.
Burge's rationale
According to her website The Sarah Burge, Burge started getting plastic surgery after severe domestic violence left her disfigured. She calls herself the "half a million pound girl" for all she has spent on cosmetic surgery. Burge also made headlines last year when her 15-year-old daughter became the youngest child in the UK to have Botox injections. Bruge told ABC News that 7-year-old Poppy can't wait to have surgery so she can have big breasts like mom. On Burge's Youtube channel she defends teaching her daughters to pole dance and encouraging plastic surgery, saying she making their dreams come true. Burge likens the liposuction and augmentation for her daughters to parents who set up educational trust funds for their children, calling it an investment in their future happiness.
"Pageant Mom" mentality
The UK Daily Mail discusses this "pageant mom" mentality. On shows like "Toddlers and Tiaras," parents go to great lengths to make their daughters look like decorative adult women. They dress children in suggestive costumes and make them dance like show girls. Children wear makeup, go tanning and get acrylic nails, body waxing and plucked eyebrows. Parents and child psychologists express several problems with "pageant mom" behavior. One level is the objectification of girls as being valuable only as sex objects. On another level are fears about the dangerous effects of this push-down of adulthood on kids. ABC News quoted parent and author Dr. Ari Brown who's concerned that parents like Burge are making their children grow up too fast. "Bypassing those [early] critical life experiences and developmental stages by trying to dress, act and be treated like an adult leaves these children lacking important life skills that help them be confident and successful adults."
Child sexualization in media
Child sexualization in media is not uncommon. Recently, Fox News questioned Cosmopolitan magazine's latest cover featuring 17-year-old Dakota Fanning juxtaposed with explicit teasers like "Too Naughty to Say Here!" and "His Best Sex Ever" and "Um Vagina, You Okay Down There?" They wondered if it was healthy for minors to be featured alongside such overtly sexual messages. Last year, Fanning's Marc Jacobs perfume ads were banned by media watch groups in the UK for "sexualizing a minor." In 2011, a parent group in the UK spoke out against Vogue magazine's images of 10-year-old French child model Thylane Lena-Rose Blondeau, says the Daily Mail. British psychologist Dr. Emma Gray called the images "the antithesis of what childhood in our society should be; a child being exposed to a world she is not yet equipped to deal with solely to serve the needs of the adults around her."
