Title: Want to bet on the Super Bowl?
Post by: careless hal on January 19, 2015, 01:22:46 AM

I would think the Pats would win idunno

Want to bet on the Super Bowl? It's easy this year. Just pick a winner.

The Super Bowl XLIX between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks line at Westgate in Las Vegas and the Caesars Entertainment properties opened as a pick 'em, which means there is no point spread for either team to cover, as neither is favored, at least initially. The initial over/under total at the Westgate is 48.5.

According to Jeff Sherman, an assistant manager at the Las Vegas Westgate sports book, and Dave Tuley, who writes for ESPN.com, the consensus as the Patriots put the finishing touches on their 45-7 win over the Indianapolis Colts was that the line was a pick 'em. Although Tuley said MGM properties had the Patriots as a 1-point

That doesn't mean that's where the line will end up. Last year the Seahawks opened as a favorite, but the line moved quickly toward the Denver Broncos, who became the favorite. VegasInsider.com's Super Bowl point spread database says the Broncos closed as a 2.5-point favorite. Oddsmakers move the line based on betting volume on one side or the other, usually with the goal of getting close to an even split on both sides.

If the Seahawks and Patriots do end up as a pick 'em, it would be unprecedented. According to VegasInsider.com's history, a Super Bowl betting line has never closed as a pick 'em. San Francisco was favored by just 1 point over Cincinnati in Super Bowl XVI and Miami was favored by a point in Super Bowl VII. Those are the smallest spreads in Super Bowl history.

Whether or not the line moves, the oddsmakers in Vegas believe this is a very evenly matched Super Bowl, or at least they believe that's how bettors will see it.

I like Seattle and under. Think Seattle will be able to slow down the Pats.  Just my 2 cents.

I love Seattle also , I don't think the Pats have enough weapons on offense to keep Seattle's D off balance .
I think Indy showed what a joke the AFC is again yesterday .
Just think if New England loses again it will mean Brady is 3-3 in the Super Bowl , then can we do away with all the talk of Brady being the greatest ever ?

And how about the shot Richard Sherman took on his arm by his own player trying to make a tackle , I can't believe there's no major damage ....it looked like his arm was going to snap in half .

Let us not forget that the Pats will cheat if they have to.

That is correct, If Brady does win his 4th out of 6, then the arguments will be over. It's funny how people don't give Brady his due. How many offensive Hall of Famers did Tom Brady play with compared with all the other Elite QB's?

He turns mediocrity into Championships

I think the PATS will be able to run on the Seahawks. Opens up the passing even more for Brady.

But what if the Pats lose ? that means Brady will be 3-3 in Super Bowls and wouldn't have won one since spygate . Yes I agree he is a great QB but Belichick won without Brady , he made Matt Cassel a one hit wonder and made him millions . Could Brady win without Belichick ?

I think the exact opposite i don't think the Pats will be able to run the ball at all against Seattle .
They rushed for  (team total)
89yrds @ Miami
76yrds @ Oakland         122@ Bears
75yrds @ Kansas City    246@ Indy
50yrds @ Buffalo           177@ Indy
63yrds @ Jets               150@ Minnesota
66yrds @ Denver
90yrds @ Lions
84yrds @ Green Bay
87yrds @ San Diego
108yrds @Miami
85yrds @ Jets
116yrds @ Buffalo
14 yrds @ Baltimore

Seattle is 3rd in the league against the run  who on New England really scares you when they touch the ball ? they don't have a legit  #1 RB

Seattle was the luckiest team on the face of the earth to beat GB but do you really think Seattle is going to turn the ball over 5 times again ?
I think the AFC as a whole is garbage , and (imo) watching Indy play and make it to the AFC Championship game proved it .

I think New England is a very good team but I think there are 3 or 4 teams in the NFC that are better .

I look for Lynch to have a monster game ........

I agree with my buddy Gazoo, my money will be on Seattle.   thumbsup

I also agree with this 1000%

Brady has put together an awesome career, not just his individual numbers but team numbers as well including championships. I think people hate him because he has a hot wife and because he has the male equivalent of a "bitch face", he just looks like the jerk assshole type. I'm not a Brady lover but give the man his props.

Las Vegas Screwed Up The Point Spread For The Super Bowl — And It Could Cost Millions

photo
.Tom BradyGetty Images A lot of gamblers are backing the Patriots in the Super Bowl. With 12 days to go before the Super Bowl, there is no favorite to win the big game. But it didn't start out that way, and that could spell disaster for Las Vegas sportsbooks.

Shortly after the New England Patriots completed their destruction of the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Championship game, the 2015 Super Bowl opened with the Seattle Seahawks as 2.5- or 3-point favorites, depending on where you looked.

However, in the first 24 hours of betting, the line fell all the way to a pick 'em (no favorite), a surprisingly big move for a point spread and a rare miss by Las Vegas.

Bill Simmons of ESPN discussed the point spread on his podcast, saying that "Vegas really screwed up with that line" and that it is rare for them to miss by that many points.

Keep in mind, point spreads are not designed to predict the winner. Rather, the purpose of a point spread is to find a number where equal amounts of money are being bet on both sides. When this happens, Vegas wins, as losing bets typically have to pay an extra 10% (i.e., a person placing a $100 bet is actually betting $110 to win $100).

In the case of the Super Bowl, that didn't happen. About 80% of the bets on the big game in the first 24 hours were on the Patriots, according to PreGame.com.

What is even more intriguing about this big swing is that the early betting action is typically done by the more seasoned and often professional gamblers making big bets (aka "sharps"), while Joe Public typically waits until a day or two before the game or even until game day.

This means that the usually smarter gamblers felt the opening line with the Seahawks favored was a terrible line and immediately put a ton of money on the Patriots, including at least one "six-figure" bet at the MGM Casino, according to ESPN.com. bowdown

So when the Super Bowl kicks off there will likely be a lot more money riding on New England — which means if the Pats win, Vegas is going to lose big time.

I can argue who in the NFC is really any good....Arizona won 11 games and played with 4 different QBS. Probably would have beat Seattle for the division if Palmer doesn't get hurt. Carolina made the playoffs with 7 wins, the Lions and Cowboys are always big chokers...that leaves Green Bay and Seattle, you can't tell me Green Bay doesn't win that game with a healthy Rodgers, and they should have won anyway. I'm not saying Seattle can't beat New England but to say that the conference has a lot better teams just isn't there.

Stanton
Kaepernick
Sanchez
Kaepernick
Lindley
Hill

Those were the qbs Seattle beat down the stretch, then beat a 7 win team with Cam and should have lost to an injured Rodgers.

I think
Green Bay
Seattle
Dallas

Are all better than any team in the AFC

There's no doubt in my mind that Green Bay wins that game with a healthy Rodgers ....
When Seattle didn't turn the ball over 5 times earlier in the year Seattle waxed them by 20
I think Green Bay would have beat New England again if they would have made it .

You want to talk about facing Quarterbacks , it must be nice to face
Geno Smith , Kyle Orton and Ryan Tannehill  twice a year .

It is really not true to say that Vegas blew the line. Lines move 2-3 points all the time out here.

the season opener was close until right tackle bulaga got hurt and left the game in the 2nd quarter
i doubt the seahawks win by 20 if he had played the whole game

Yeah but no one is saying the Patriot defense is the best ever like they are about Seattle. I think their D can be had. Rodgers couldn't move, yet they sacked him once.. Give a healthy brady all that time and they are going to get tourched.

So much with comparing the much vaunted Seattle Defense with the 85 Bears or the 2000 Ravens.............

Up 10 with 12 minutes to go, Brady went down the field twice to go ahead, and the only reason Seattle had a chance was due to another Giant like Fluke play.

Seattle has a good defense, they are only great at HOME, Championship defenses are great everywhere.

Fluke play ? catching the ball and pinning it against your helmet to make the catch is not a fluke play ...

So I guess Odell Beckham's catch was a fluke play also ?

Of Course it was a Fluke play, mostly because the guy who did it had NO Talent. How many more games did that clown play in the NFL? What is he doing now?, stocking grocery shelves?.........Fluke Play........made by a Fluke player........end of story.

Then again, I'm sure you believe Eli Manning is an Eite Quaterback?

Good Luck with that one

17 more games.  Looks like he made between $9-10 million in the NFL.  210 receptions, 2849 yards and 19 touchdowns doesn't seem like someone with no talent.  Looks like injuries kept him from doing more.
