Title: O/T Winter Baseball Meetings
Post by: maywoodmaniac on December 10, 2014, 07:49:14 AM
In a 24-hour period, the White Sox sign closer David Robertson and give up next to nothing in a trade with the A's to get Jeff Samardzija. Combined with Sale and Quintana, they now have one of the best top 3 rotations in the American League.

On the other side of town, the perennial losers have apparently won the Jon Lester Derby by giving him a 6-year, $155 million contract.

Yep, baseball is back on the radar in the Windy City.

While I do think the Cubs have a nice young team but what does the signing of Lester really do ? by the time they mature and are ready to contend (2 , 3 or maybe 4yrs ) Lester will be on the down side of his career .... 25mil for 6 years ? ouch !!

Nobody else was going to give him that ,but then again its just the Cubs being the Cubs I guess.

Hopefully in 4yrs the Cubs will win the World Series for G-Man on his 75th birthday , god knows he's waited this long.

If it wasn't for their century-long slump, Cubs fans would flood Vegas books with enough loot to make them even money to win the National League in 2015.

Instead, they'll probably only drive the price down to 5-2.

Lester is already on the downside of his career,  He may have a couple decent years, but I see no Cy Youngs in his future.  Hopefully the Cubs will  get something for all the money they shelled out. Would I swap Chris Sale for Lester?   rflmao1 rflmao1 rflmao1 rflmao1  Never.  The Sox still have some work to do.  They need some power at 3rd base and an outfielder to replace the Tank.  I would be surprised if he starts the season with the Sox.
Warning to the soon to be Las Vegas revelers: Las Vegas Police have shot and killed 15 people this year.  The latest was last week at the guest elevators at the Rio.  shootme

Cubs after the signing are down to 12 to 1 to win the World Series. Good luck to anyone who plucks down a bet.

The Cubs have been a Vegas sucker bet for years. They know every year they are going to get a ton of money bet on them so they can make the odds whatever they want them to be and still get all the best. They even had a show on it, it was definitely a fun watch and pretty hilarious.

This is the first time in decades that the Pirates will go into spring training with a set lineup  and really no needs anywhere in the field .
If Palonco can live up to the hype and Alvarez can return to his 2013 form this team has a chance to make some noise in the playoffs .
