Title: Terrible fire in Canada
Post by: Headpole Dave on June 01, 2014, 06:30:25 PM
Breaking news reports out of British Columbia indicate that at least 20 horses have perished in a Langley barn fire Sunday afternoon.

The reports state the barn that caught fire was located on 224th Street near 40th Avenue.

Trot Insider has learned that the majority of the horses stabled in the barn were trained by Bill Davis and owned by Rick Mowles of the J J J Stables. Investigations on the cause of the fire are currently underway. Early reports indicate that no horses made it out of the blaze.

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the connections of the horses lost in the fire.

Horrible news... Just horrible.

Terrible news for sure.   These things are just so tragic.   Were most of those horses racing at Fraser?   Visited that place a few years ago and will again next March.   Very friendly facility treated us extremely well.....Condolences to all the connectiions on this loss.

Yes the horses were all racing at Fraser Downs, Dale.

Numerous online charity spots have been organized by local horsemen to help out Bill and Laurie Davis (parents of young driver Billy Davis Jr on the WEG circuit), as well as donations of breedings from top sires like Sportswriter and Betterthancheddar... As some of you may know, Casie Coleman got her start with the Davis outfit... Bill Davis, who was known as "the Dominator" has helped a lot of up and coming horsemen (women) along the way.

Here's an article that will give a little more detail on the help getting to the Davis family:

It's a terrible thing, but out of this tragic fire, you once again see how horse people will always rally around one of their own to get them the help they need.  You can say what you want about folks on the backstretch, but they take care of their own.
