Title: Dead Heat, Please.
Post by: Just Saying on November 27, 2013, 12:24:55 PM
I am so looking forward to seeing Foiled Again and Captaintreacherous in the same field of horses, but I can't pick who to root for. I have a familial connection to The Cap'n, but FA is my personal dream type horse. 7 years old and still cranking out monster miles every start. A win by The Cap'n might play into the HOTY voting, but FA has to be on the list for Horse of the Century.

Maybe a dead heat in world record time?  thumbsup

Bet an exacta box and root for both.

FA is 9 which is even more amazing.

You sir are correct! I meant to type 'racing 7 years'. I just love those old war horses that can deliver the mail for many years. There are a bunch of them who can go super fast as an early 2yo and then fly all to pieces. They get bred to because of the flashy speed, only to pass along the 'fly apart' gene. Stud, gelding, or mare, I love the ones with durability.

I cashed a signer on Ben-Hur and quit a winner.

I don't think the captain will hit the board. I think it will come down to Pet Rock Foiled Again And Needy

I agree ...  plus enough about the Captian vs Foiled ,  it should be Pet Rock vs Folied Again for aged horse of the year .

If the Captian raced last year against that group of 3yr olds he might not have been in the top 5 .

Im so tired of hearing how great the Captian is , does anybody really think he could have beat Somebeachsomewhere  or Rocknroll Hanover ? I sure don't

The Captain may well hit the board.  I'm not sure about him winning against this group, but neither am I that sure that one of the other horses will win.  I all depends, as do most races , on how the race sets up.  Foiled Again is one of my favorite horses as is the Captain.  I think one of them will win, it's possible that they finish 1-2 and it's also [possible that they finish 4-5.  We will see.  Have to give credit to the Captain's connections for being willing to take on this stellar group.  Both of the horses have  a ton of heart and I am sure they will be giving it all they have.

I think Needy will get this one done, but I'm only playing a hunch. It will be a fine horse race though, and one I'm looking forward to watching.

Dead Heat in record time?  Now that would be quite a story.  Seems most everyone believes the Captain and FA will be the first two finishers but this is horse racing....how many times have we seen it that "something happens" in the race or some horrid torrid pace burns one or both of the monsters?  What will the talk be in the unlikely scenario in which both would finish off the board?  No, I don't think it will happen and I surely don't want it to but its racing and strange things have been known to happen.  No such thing as a sure thing let alone a sure thing exacta.  One thing is certain....if a race like this fails to excite and get the the blood pumping....you're dead!

Seems to me making it sound that way is the promotion department at the Big M. Way to just dismiss Pet Rock who has been at the top of the Division all year. IMO making out to be FA against the Captain is pretty dumb. This is a very deep field.

I wouldn't be surprised to see an upset. I may play JC to pull an upset with Modern Legend, similar to how Thinking Out Loud upset these in the US Pacing Championship earlier this summer. Great field of quality horses.

Nice to see him pick up 2 wins at the Meadowlands as well in the past few weeks.
