The entire state is on the edge of financial disaster under the rule of Speaker Madigan and the ignorant sock puppet Gov. Quinnochio, not just horse racing. We have unfunded liabilities of around $90 billion, ( it's a moving target of a number depending on who's lying at the moment) and the pols just keep on throwing money at the non-productive to pander for votes. Illinois is on the verge of bankruptcy and the politicians are going to keep sucking money out of the gravy train until the very end.

Was there when they were filming this.  Even chatted with the crew a bit.  Well, all I can say is that it may well be that all the naysayers and haters of Illinois racing may finally get their wish.  It takes money to collect taxes and that is what the state is not providing the Racing Board,  Let's make a deal , you say give me $750,000 and I'll give you $50  million.  My response, I can't afford it!!!  That is what the State is saying!!! How stupid can these A-wipes be?   When you consider all the taxes collected from employees who will lose their jobs, the cost increases even more. Government at all levels in this country is out of control!!!! Enough already!!!

Almost any establishment can get a video gaming license to allow video slots where they want.

Except the racetrack. that would be tragic

I feel really bad for ALL the Guys and girls who work their tails off 24/7. Its a shame it has come to this. This situation could have been WAY different if some people has just an iota of foresight. But, no. Like most Sulky horses, they went with a Blind bridle, instead of an open bridle.
I thank God I got out of Ill 12 years ago.  I loved racing, but too many greedy hands in the pie have ruined the business I loved. 4pezz2   We ALL know who the culprits are.
After all the years I still believe in Karma. My best wishes to the Ill horsemen.May you all find Prosperity and happiness !!!!!

Its is amazing indeed, Niatross.  No common sense at all.  How about Chicago's Mayor looking to add another 75 cents per pack tax on cigarettes?  He must have forgotten where Chicago is - directly adjacent to northwest Indiana where people will go to buy smokes as you pointed out.  Then he threatens the Gov and the legislature by saying if he does not get the $relief he wants for Chicago, paid for byaall the people in Illinois, that the city's 2015 property taxes will rise 100%!  The politics in the land of Lincoln are so pathetic yet these 'public servants' continue to get elected.  Truly unbelievable.
