I kinda thought the same thing, haven't seen a great view of it but when it first happened I thought Yannick might have came into Jody. It's been a long inquiry that's for sure.

What a great day. I'm biased because I made some good money. There was a lot of leaning back in the bikes though. Must be fines galore.

Two great days for me. Made some cash, gavce out a $780 elim Tri and $50 wiinner to the gang at Woodlands Cigar at the cigar/handicapping seminar, but only bet a deuce on him myslef. Raised awareness for HHYF and earned them a few bucks, hear a freaking hilarious Rachel K story, met the one and only Jeff Lieberman, finally got World-record holder Jamie Coffey to show up and talk to me in person (Am I the only person besides Bianconi who saw both world-record half-mile efforts?), witnessed (through the eyes of Sam McKee) Bianconi eating a slab of ribs while wearing a white shirt and not staining it. Cashed a few good tickets, even though I was working. Grilled bologna with onions and pepper jack is awesome. But it needs bacon. And there was some multi-heat race, too

Another Jug came and went. Great day. No screaming Roger about setting attendance records . slaphead because they didn't but they had the back stretch full which I haven't seen in years. Looked like the backstretch tent was at least half full and the Mountain tent wasn't bad either. The grandstand wasn't full by any stretch of the imagination and the bleachers were almost vacant. but if anyone is paying any attention, the backstretch chairs were betting their butts off. It was good racing and the fans were on the backside. Getting all uppity doesn't work. Put your effort into the backstretch fans and making their experience the best ever. Take a lesson from Nascar and maybe you can get the butts in the seats again.

Yesterday was truly a celebration of harness racing. Hearing Tim Tetrick say in a USTA interview that he doesn't tell the judge how to sit in his chair and the judge doesn't need to tell him how to sit in the bike was precious! Hearing "It all starts with the stewards...", is a great way to fire old Gary D. up.
Seeing Roger Huston in a radio interview validate my belief that two heats are great for racing really made me happy. And hearing Roger say that the Jug is truly the best harness race of the year (look at the crowd) just made me ecstatic! He also pointed out without the fans, we have no sport, so give the fans what they want: all the best horses racing Jug day!
Personally I am fairly certain that the Captain would not have won the Jug and that is why he was not there. I met one of his owners, Joe Sbrocco there yesterday. He was very disappointed that his horse was not there.
Also met Cleveland's harness racing historian, D'Arcy Egan yesterday for the first time in many, many years. D'Arcy is a member here, but rarely posts. He was a writer for horse racing in Cleveland back when the sport was booming, and it was great to see him there working yesterday.
And I got back a little of the money I'd lost the other three days. rflmao1

No, If I have the best horse in the country, I make sure he is ready for Lexington and the end all be all the Breeders crown. That is what matters. Just like the T-breds, they are all aiming for one thing at this time of the year the Breeders Cup.
Those are the races at this time for the year that get you year end honors, not the Jug.

I heard the attendance but don't know exactly what they said. 40-45,000?? Whatever it was there was no "screaming we have broke an attendance record" from Roger Huston. ::) I will say the chairs were lined up all down the backside from the fence to about 12' from the barns. Have not seen that in years. and the crowd on the backside were actually cheering and yelling every race so they were betting pretty good back there. The bleachers were almost empty. one corner next to the grandstand and that was about it. Grandstand had some empty spots in the corners and way up top but it had twice as many people as last year. The white tent on the backside was probably 1/2 full. If they would get rid of the damn thing and allow the "common betting $" folks to set their chairs there all the way back to the betting booths they would triple whatever those handful in that damn fancy tent bet and that tent , beer and catering isn't "cheap" to put on so I don't know how it could've been a moneymaker this year either. My grandmother would say " you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear" and that is what I think they are trying to do with this tent. They have the huge charity tent on the 1st turn. We don't need anymore "white glove" tents. Give these country bettin boys more opportunities to see the races and get to the bettin booths .

By no means do I direct this at Tony Alagna but I can't help but notice the contradiction. On one hand you hear that these owners want to do what's "in the best interest of the horse". By that I assume they are referring to the health and well being of the horse. I also hear that if some of that Ohio slot money made its way to Delaware you might get more of the top ones entered.
Huh? How does heat racing all of a sudden become acceptable to the horse's "best interest" if there is $1M purse? Just like anything else, everyone has a price. Race for $1M or more and they would probably go 6 heats if that's what it took. Just my opinion.

I know it was a dam good time and the fact that I had both the tri and super in the Jug final for a mere $22 investment made me pretty skippy.

Got to meet Gary & Jordanjacob, which was great, although we were hoping for a winner's circle photo. Also got in a short visit with The Giss, who speaks my language.
A good time was had by most! birdienana

By the way, fried bologna with grilled onions and melted pepper jack cheese should be its own food group. Only thing missing was a couple strips of bacon.

I got to meet The Giss. We talked iguanas, donuts, and stogies. Saw Uppity Filly, Overdover, Bettor, Beans & Weenies, Big Shooter, BB(Mr Overdover) to name a few. Introduced our fearless leader to a fellow he wanted to buy horses from, only to have 'you know who' start bitchin' at the guy that he was an idiot for not racing heats on a half. Boy, that's good for business. I had to explain that his only purpose was as a life support system for Little Luther D.
The topper was when Trackman Extraordinaire told me that Ron Gurfein once said, "I'm the greatest Jewish horse trainer since Ben-Hur!"
As always, my Bride and I had a great time at The Jug with some mighty fine folks.

Would have loved to met you too. I always look forward to meeting new friends. Didn't know Jackie Mo was Jewish, but wouldn't have made any difference. I like the Constitution's approach: Believe in whatever you want, or nothing at all. I'm in no position to judge anyone else, and I'm sure nobody would pick me to be the Poster Child for their religion.
I did get a chuckle out of Gurfein's line. Maybe we'll get to meet at the next Jug. (hope the Jug Society makes some changes by then)

I think we were talking to Donna about heat racing. The owners who decided not to race at Delaware are the people that I was at odds at. I know minority owner Joe Sbrocco wanted to race him in the Jug, but he said one of the majority owners was the one who made the decision.
As far as selling horses, I really don't care all that much about it at this point. My ass is still hurting from June, July, and August. 4pezz2

You were on a rant about heat racing ( I stocked the flames when I suggested going back to the REAL old days and make it a best of 7 heats or two consecutive wins in a day) when I introduced you. I immediately left because you guys wanted to talk business that wasn't MY business.
I assumed the conversation continued on that tack after I left. There's a very good reason the word assume starts with ASS. I obviously was talking about something I never heard, which is stupid on my part. I sincerely apologize. JS
