Although it is a total shame they don't race heats at the fairs, it is now fair time in Ohio. One of my favorite fairs is racing this week-Bucyrus. Washington Court House is racing this week as well. That was always one of my favorites because of the ear corn they gave the horsemen to eat.
Hilliard and London raced last week. Sunday starts racing at the worst fair in Ohio that still races horses, Marysville fair (the absolute smelliest armpit of the horse racing world in Ohio, in this writer's expert opinion). Anyone want to bet they have a monsoon? ???
Next week I believe is Mount Vernon fair, another of my favorites. One thing I never have figured out-how do I go to the fairs the entire month of September, eat like an absolute hog, and lose weight or at least stay even from the time I left Nevada?
This is one time I really miss Ohio. 4pezz2

I'm not any kind of medical expert but, I think it has something to do with homeostasis. It's so dry in Nevada you retain water and in Ohio, it is so humid you shed water. That, or there is so much bacteria in the food and water you just sh*t it out.

In my expert medical opinion, the secret lies in the lemonade shake-ups; they kill calories.
You can eat deep-fried fair food all day as long as you throw in the lemonade to eat up the calories. It's all written down in my research papers... I can show it to you sometime.

Speaking of fairs Dr. JS...... I may come down to the IL State Fair with the family. Most likely day is Friday August 9. I'd love to take in the races with you again. If we do decide to make the trip I'll be in touch. thumbsup

Sounds great! Your sweeties and mine can take in the fair while we play the ponies. It'll be a fun day. Bring pezzy and we'll find him a Corona with an orange slice. 8)

Ohio and Illinois host some great Fairs but Michigan has a few worth noting as well. Tuesday night, the Ottawa County Fair in Holland hosts the Wolverine Futurity. 14 race program includes 4 overnights, and its going to be a 'show' that provides entertainment value for the cost of admission. The irony is the Wolverine will welcome the Spartan as in the MSU Spartan Chariot and Gladiator to participate in the opening flag raising ceremony, Happy Horse from MHHA will be a treat for the kids, free visors will be provided to the first 500 paid admissions, drivers will toss many t-shirts into the stands that say "County Fair Harness Racing - Where It All Began" on them, we'll host a 'bouncy bounce' race for Grooms since they generally get little to no recognition or attention, blankets (coolers) and wooden shoes will be awarded and we'll have James Witherite from Harrah's Philadelphia as our special guest announcer for the night. Should be a lot of fun. Post time is 7 p.m. near the shores of Lake Michigan. If anybody can make it, look me up!

Not my style to respond to my own post BUT there has been a very unusual late program change....eliminations with a final will be reprogrammed as two "divisions" and no 'final'. Card will feature 13 races and loads of fun.
