Title: Pair A Dice Shocks At 22-1 In Meadows Feature; Final Six Races Canceled

WASHINGTON, PA, June 18, 2013 — Exploiting a hot pace on a softening track, Pair A Dice rallied third over to pull off a 22-1 shocker in Tuesday’s $22,500 Winners Over $10,000 Life/Preferred Handicap Pace at The Meadows.

A three-ply speed duel featuring Hickory Big Red, R Caan and Object of Art resulted in fractions of 26.4/55.1 on a surface under siege by rain. That was the signal for the back markers to move. The second-over Lonesome Attack got the jump in the lane, but Pair A Dice, under Eric Ledford’s urging, edged him by a head in 1:51.4. Hickory Big Red saved show.

Jack Smith trains Pair A Dice, a 7-year-old Cam’s Card Shark-Heirloom gelding who now boasts $343,887 in career earnings, for Thomas Mucci.

Elsewhere on the card, Invictus Hanover scored in 1:57, fastest mile this year by a 2-year-old gelding pacer on a five-eighths-mile track. Dave Palone drove the son of Yankee Cruiser-I Sparkle for trainer Ron Burke and owners Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi LLC, Keith Pippi and Michelle Yanek.

Pair A Dice’s win was the last of the day, as the storm forced the cancellation of the final six races on the scheduled 15-race card. Live racing resumes Wednesday at The Meadows at 6:55 PM.
