Title: Mohawk: Pepsi North American Cup Night Selections
Post by: Headpole Dave on June 15, 2013, 09:48:02 AM
 thumbsup

One of the best nights of the year for racing. Great card, great venue, lots of fun. Here's what I like (barring scratches) tonight:

1- Daniel Semalu

2- Maven (playing on top of China Pearl, Cedar Dove, Intense America, Personal Style)

3- Angies Lucky Star: betting against the favorite here but I just don't like Zeron in the big races. Box with Bee A Magician

4- Ideal Race

5- Jerseylicious: taking the upset here. I think Callahan will blast out of there and get a two hole trip behind I Luv the Nightlife, then have enough to go by in the lane. I think the week off makes her a tad bit fresher.

6- Anderlecht: Horse draws inside and I think they'll go wicked fractions up front, which allows Zeron to come from off the pace - his favorite move - and score.

7- Fool Me Once: Once again going with an upset. I think the Captain will cut the mile and they'll come after him hard. I think Filion will get a two hole trip and shake loose late. I wouldn't be surprised to see a half in 52 and change.

8- Wild Dragon: Seems to fit in here.

9- Gotta Secret: This one has been prepped and pointed towards this race, and I love the Filion/Moreau connection.

10- Varadero Hanover: Class relief and gets Tetrick. You can't beat that combo.

11- Fred and Ginger: flipped a coin and took this one over Okay Commander. Box them in exactors.

12- Speed Again: will like these bunch much better

13- Goban: Auciello is red hot, follow the money.

Good luck to all playing! I'll be firing into pick 3s and the pick 4s all night. Post your picks!

Good luck, Dave!

I'm still working my way through the card, but here are some initial thoughts:

R3 - I agree that BEE A MAGICIAN is beatable tonight.  Won't get much price on ANGIES LUCKY STAR, so I might just sit back and watch.

R4 - I really don't like IDEAL RACE in here.  Didn't like him last week either and he was way overbet.  Doesn't have a finishing move and his one win in his past ten races was a wicked speed duel that fell apart.  I think this is a wide open race, but I like TOP GEAR slightly more than the others.  Drops after losing to OK COMMANDER...also lost to STATE TREASURER three back.  I honestly think that all of the horses in this race have a chance.  THE LADIES MAN raced big against MAGICIAN from the 10 hole.  WINDFALL BLUE CHIP has a shot, if ready.  DONAU could be rounding back into shape.

R5 - I confidently liked JERSEYLICIOUS over I LUV THE NITELIFE when they last met at M1.  The same applies tonight.  LOVE CANAL get a huge post change and was overloaded from an impossible spot last time; value play here.

R9 - Interesting how the elim winners were 9-2 or better.  I think GOTTA SECRET takes this. TOOCOOL FORSCHOOL needs to see some pressure, however.

R11 - I give FRED AND GINGER the nod over OK COMMANDER.  What's going on with WARRAWEE NEEDY?  100K on the line tonight, perhaps he blasts tonight, but gets roughed up by top two.

Good luck!

Great great card!!!!!

Race 4 - Pick Four (5/8/10-4/8-3/6/9-2/4/8/9)

Race 6 - Mach Dreamer has been facing some monsters in last few. The class relief is huge for him tonight. Looking for him to fire early and beat these easier foes. 9W3/6/1

Race 7 - the big one. Captive Audience raced huge last week. His last half was incredible. He has improved every week back. I'm expecting lots of early pace and looking for him to float out there and get into a live cover flow. If he's close late I think he wins at a decent price. 9W2/8/4.

Race 8 - Pick Four (3/5/9/10-7-3/4-2/9)

Race 9 - Hamdalla raced big no cover last week. Looking for even more this week as Miller gets it all for Rekila going for the big money. 7W5/2/1

Race 11 - Warrawee Needy's last half last week was huge. Three wide the entire last turn on the speed track Toga against the best in the world. This is his track and a much easier bunch. Should win it. 9W2/10/3

Race 13 - hope you have some money left for my best bet of the night Goban. He is simply too fast for these. Defeated much better when racing in Toronto this spring. Wire to wire here. 7W2/6/9.

Good luck to all!!!!!!

Race 1...I keep changing my mind in here, originally I liked Daniel Semalu, then Im Feeling Good, now Winbak Warrior. I don't know what to do in here, probably will play all three of them, and by the time the race starts maybe someone else too.

Race 2...Maven

Race 3...I'm going to use both Bee A Magician and Angies Lucky Star. I think Bee A Magician is the best, but have to hope to upset her to get paid.

Race 4...The Ladies Man, love the driver change to McNair from Saftic. I'll use a few others in the pk 4 but will key this one on a ticket as well.

Race 5...I Luv The Nitelife, I think she is just getting into peak form. When she was third against Jerseylicious it was just her second start of the year (11 for Jersey) and 49 might have been asking a lot. Jersey disappoints me that she can't beat Ms Caila J Fra....Love Canal will be a small play in the pick 4.

Race 6...I like a bunch of them in here, All Speed Hanover, Mystician, Transcending, Anderlecht, Mach Dreamer and even Odysseus Blue Chip. All Speed Hanover would probably be my top pick, that was a big mile in his 2nd start since 2011.

Race 7...Fool Me Once is my top choice. I don't think I can let Captain or Vegas beat me in the pick 4, and I think I'd be surprised if someone other then these 3 wins. Captive Audience was probably my favorite loser last week, but post 9 could make things difficult unless there is a ton of shuffling going on.

Race 8...I can't decide who I like the best in here, Hilarious Halo or Cams Tux. Halo takes a little drop and keeps David, Tux moves up a bit but comes off a pair of good closing efforts.

Race 9...Toocool Forschool really looks like a new horse this year. I was really impressed with the way she finished that mile off last week and think they're going to have a tough time beating him tonight, unless of course Saftic gets in his way.

Race 10...Varadero Hanover or Sweet Talkin Satin, both failed to make the NA CUP final but both have been racing really well and catch a nice spot tonight.

Race 11...Another race where I'm going to spread out, but I do give State Treasurer an upset chance. Has been really sharp this year and I expect the pace in here to be pretty crazy, and think he can be in a good spot tonight to rally off some cover.

Race 12...Speed Again, can't believe this horse is 0-15 on the year. Faces a much easier group but wouldn't surprise me if he finds a way to get beat again, maybe Uncle Goodfellow? Gerard Demers turned this horse into a $10k claimer into a race against Speed Again in 3 weeks. Cool Rock will be closing from no where late. I wish Whippet Good was racing a little better, getting McNair should be a big plus.

Race 13...Annuity for me, although Goban and the red hot Auciello barn will also be on my tickets.

Will take my results. 20% bonus on the pk 4 was sweet. But hammering the late double was sweeter.  Have had some big nights on the NA Cup cards through the years.
