one week to trim the field down to the possibles and toss the rest
falling sky / soundly beaten last 2 at shorter dist than the derby
charming kitten / has yet to even race on grass owner's ego and money puts him in the derby
-
Frac Daddy....just one lifetime win, and was buried in the Holy Bull and the Florida Derby, before running 2nd to get in the field in the slow Arkansas Derby. Don't like him at all.
Palace Malice....also has just one lifetime win, and really doesn't have that winning kick to be a factor. I also don't think he faced much of the top competition, the one time he faced Revolutionary he was well beaten.
Will Take Charge/Oxbow....Lukas always does what he can to get horses that aren't that good into the Derby. The Rebel got these two going which was a terrible field. Neither of these horses is very consistent or very fast.

I'm sure you meant to say Charming Kitten has never raced on DIRT...being out of Kitten's Joy, he should have stayed on the turf.

Will Take Charge is a huge horse. I'm not ready to toss him, even if Lukas hasn't been a factor in the Derby for years.

Well he's going to have to beat me. I don't care how big he is, he hasn't shown me anything. Not to mention his one start over the track he finished dead last beaten 25 lengths.

totally agree on wiil take charge and palace malice.

Goldencents will have to beat me as well. no Horse that wins the Delta Jackpot is going to be on my ticket. They have never been a factor in the derby. The Santa Anita Derby was awful.
Governor Charlie has a foot problem and from reports, hasn't looked good galloping.
I will also add Java's war to the list. He will be 20th, and he will not get there.
I agree with all the others you guys have mentioned

I wasn't a Governor Charlie fan before the foot problem. He ran on a track that was faster then the indy 500 at Sunland, and was struggling to hold on in his maiden win prior to that. Java's War I can't just toss...yes he'll be coming from 20th, but he's a horse I can see hitting the superfecta ticket. I also think Goldencents is a bit different then the previous Delta Jackpot winners, although I said it after his Santa Anita Derby win that he ran his Derby that day...so I'll end up sticking to that. But he might be on an Oaks/Derby double ticket.

today's toss is lines of battle.
this could be any kind of horse but imo has 2 huge strikes against him.he's another who has yet to run on dirt and maybe even worse he is coming in from dubai.
horses fromm dubai are ofer the derby
-
Frac Daddy outworked Java's War today. Both are autotosses for me. I am also tossing Govenor Charlie because of the foot issues. Everything has to go perfect to win the Derby.
-
Governor Charlie and Code West both unlikely for the derby.

-
java's war - looks like a turf horse to me cd races not very good
gov charlie - foot problems + baffert's luck has gone south
my lute - well traveled and well beaten too many times for me
code west - still elgible to nw1x and baffert is ice cold
that plus charming kitten falling sky lines of battle will take charge palace malice are all toss outs.
will wait for posts and final field for other possible toss outs
-
Baffert ruled out both Code West and Govenor Charlie today. That means Baffert has no horses in the Derby.
-
add giant finish to the list of tossouts
20th on the points list but i read today the trainer will have someone else saddle him for the derby.
if the trainer is not going why bet the horse ?
-
time to add black onyx oxbow and vyjack to the toss out list
-
I have taken Oxbow off my auto-toss list. A friend of mine thinks he has an outside chance and he has been right before when I thought he was crazy. I hate that I am going to have to show up at the OTB at 9 Am both Friday and Saturday and make my bets for the day. 4pezz2 4pezz2 4pezz2

Hal if you want you can make derby plays Friday.
-
One of plays if I make it to otb Friday will be a
All with verranzo oaks derby double. Oaks has one hell of a field.

why is JCastellano riding the 5 Normandy Invasion and not the 3 Revolutionary a Pletcher horse?

He chose Normandy Invasion over Revolutionary. He said Verrazano was the horse he thought he needed to beat and that Normandy Invasion has been the closest horse to him.

Does that mean your also tossing out Normandy Invasion? He's only won one race lifetime!! I like Palice Malice he's out of Curlin out of a mare that could run all day and got better with racing!! Only thing wrong about his LA. Derby was Prado got caught on the in-side and got bottled up, or else he probably was the winner!!! in the blue grass, he never saw Java until it was too late plus he changed leads again when he crossed tracks. (Curlin hated the polly too) Not saying he's the winner because with 20 horses the best horse usually doesn't win, but he is not a toss for me!
