I'm going to go with Verrazano. I like Normandy Invasion, but he to beat Verrazano is a tough task.

I liked him going into his last race and he was not good. The horses that raced in that aqueduct race 2 back have done nothing since.

I am with ya all, Verrazano

If Verrazano wins this he will be on the top of over half my derby selections, with the others going towards other undefeated horses in 2013.

Which will be different than normal, because I usually don't bet horses from the Wood Memorial.

There's hope for the closers today based upon the last 2 sprints at Aqueduct. Normandy Invasion fans have a sliver of hope.

Sahara Sky came from no where to be a fast closing 2nd.

Verrazano opens up at even money with Normandy Invasion at 5/2.

Pletcher's interview makes it sound like Verrazano might be on the lead. We got him an education with some dirt getting thrown in his face at Tampa, so we're not going to get too cute with him today. We're hear to win the Wood.

Verrazano looked good on the track too.

Verrazano wins the Wood, but he looked done at different points. We have a vulnerable, heavy favorite for the Darby.

A little quick with the start

A little quick with the start

Got to think the 10 would be declared a scratch.

I never thought he was beat.

I never thought he was beat.

Pletcher said it best with the "he waits on horses" comment he said after the race. That is a lot better to describe it than "he was done"  rflmao1 rflmao1

This is the first race I watched this year... The coverage seems lousy on NBC thus far.  They should have said the 10 got scratched I only noticed because I saw on tvg the double and pick 4 playoffs

The entire race was run weird. They went so slow, seemed like Johnny could have gone by the 80/1 shot at any point and set a quicker pace if he wanted, and by not doing so the other two contenders were right behind him turning for home as they headed into the wind.

Yep never did they even mention there was an inquiry or a scratch. Think they're too geared up for the Santa Anita Derby.

What are everyone's thoughts on Normandy Invasion?

I like him, but I get this feeling he's like Jazil. A deep closer who clunks up for the bottom of the exotics and would need to move a lot sooner to have a chance at winning the Derby.

I never thought he was beat.

He better be closer to the rail during the stretch at the derby or someone will come up the inside.

I don't like him at all. I really think he was in the race today cause they went so slow.

I think Normandy Invasion is the type of horse that hits the board in the Derby at some nice odds.

no way do i see veranzanno winning the derby
1/2 the wood field are still elgible for nw1x.imo the chalk by having the best postion once the gate broke and the running started.the rest of the way they they crawled and the race was over.
looks like another pletcher toss for me.
can you really see a more than ready sired horse winning the derby ?

my money says jr gets off this one and stays on orb

Verrazano got a 95 Beyer for his victory in the Wood Memorial.

Everyone wants to talk about how slow the time was in this race, yet last week Orb won the Florida Derby in 150.4 off fractions of 112.4 137.3....Revolutionary won the Louisiana Derby in 150.1 off fractions of 111.4 137.3....Verrazano won yesterday in 150.1 off fractions of 113.3 137.3.

I'll try and look at this race in a different way. How about in a harness race when a horse can go 149 for a mile, yet he gets away with real soft fractions keeping the horses that can only go 151 in the race and turning it into a quarter mile sprint home. Yes he's supposed to beat them easily, but by slowing the time down early, the 151 horses now have a chance to keep up.

Johnny said he could have done more with him if he had to, but he said he was cruising enough to beat Vyjack and didn't want to over due it. He also said he didn't even know Normandy Invasion was coming. I'll say Johnny stays here.
