Most serious horseplayers have probably heard of virtually every type of wager in the race game. That being said, how many punters have heard of a Pick 5 they would refer to as 'life changing?'
Fair Grounds Race Course today announced a new exotic bet to its wagering menu, coming in the form of 'The Black Gold 5.'
The Black Gold 5 requires a bettor to hold the lone successful ticket with the winners of five consecutive races. On cards when there is no single-ticket winner, half of the pool will be paid as consolation to tickets with the most correct and half of the pool will go to the carryover. The Black Gold 5 will carry a $.50 minimum and will start on Race 5 every day.

Fair Grounds is traditionally a very small T-Bred track with very small handles.
Their win pools rarely exceed $4000 and their exotic pools are also small ranging between $3500-$5000.
We shall see how life changing their new Black Gold 5 exotic bet turns out to be.

I think you are way off with the comments about the Fair Grounds handles.
CDI owns the track and it plays a major part in the winter schedule for tbreds.Handle has averaged over $3-4 million a day going back as far 2001 that I can remember.Once the video poker machines were addded purses and handle have jumped.Gulfstream opening earlier this yr on 12/3 may hurt the handle some.I really enjoy the full fields on the turf that play fairer than GP add in the big pools and it is a major track to play IMO.

I do believe Gulfstream had some type of play last season for ten cents.

Right! I know I played it there--most likely only time I played those tracks.

You are right about Ohio and I was wrong about GP.
GP just started a .50 p5 last season

I spent a solo afternoon there while my Bride was shopping at Riverwalk. Didn't play, but it seemed like a really nice place. There's an open balcony around the paddock so you can get real close to the horses before races. I liked that. Fans & help were friendly and attendence looked pretty decent. Didn't note the handle.
