Schadt appeals DQ of Odds On Equuleus

Harnessracing.com has learned that trainer Robin Schadt has filed an appeal in the ruling of the disqualification of her horse Odds On Equuleus from first to last in a division of the Bluegrass for 2-year-old colt pacers last Saturday night at The Red Mile. Schadt filed the paperwork herself Monday at the offices of the Kentucky Racing Commission located at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.
Odds On Equuleus finished first in his division for driver John Campbell, but the judges posted the "inquiry" sign as the presentation of the trophy and winner's circle photo were being done. After a delay that lasted approximately 15 minutes, the horse's number was taken down and second-place finisher Rockin Amadeus was moved to first, with all other starters moving up a position in the order. The judges ruled that Campbell abruptly took hold of his horse in the final turn, which caused confusion among the trailing horses, including two that made breaks. The third quarter paced on the lead by Odds On Equuleus was officially timed in :28.4.
The appeal by Schadt, who also shares ownership with Dana Parham as Odds On Racing, will now go before a hearing officer on a yet-to-be-scheduled date. The hearing officer will then make a decision on either upholding the ruling, overturning the ruling, or modifying to the ruling, with that recommendation then going before the Kentucky Racing Commission.
The track judges, Rich Williams, Anthony Clark and Dan Ross, will only be involved in the hearing process as their testimony is required. They will not be involved any further in any decision that will be made. Also, although some jurisdictions require a fee for an appeal, Kentucky does not require any fee.

The DQ was total BS. It was a black eye for harness racing. The horse should get the money and the win. The poor bettors are just screwed.

I too have watched the replay umpteen times trying to see what caused this DQ and its just not there. I can understand 'sitting down abruptly' in front of a field and jamming things up but that didn't happen. I always felt the idea of running a race is to win it - evidently not though! I wish Robin and the connections well in this appeal process. Like JS said, it probably won't be overturned but if there ever was valid reason to overturn a decision, this certainly is it. Very very bad call from my perspective.

watched the race in question without a wager and it sure seemed to me that Sears screwed the field up with his indecision on whether to pull or not..sometimes harness racing cant seem to get out of its own way..more bettors lost due to this I would presume

This "rule" is one of my biggest complaints with the entire sport. You may recall a DQ at YR on Brent Holland as his tons the best trotter got out to a fast 28.2(?) lead & as Brent slowed the pace 97 year-old Cat manzi, laying 5th, ran up on someone & broke. I was so disgusted with the DQ I didn't go to the track for 3 months!
This one is at least as bad.
I will once again quote (paraphrase) Bill Haughton who also hated the rule: "If the frontrunner is going too slow it is the job of the other drivers to go after him, not the fault of the fellow trying to win".

It would really be nice if they'd pay me the tickets I threw away when Campbell was DQ'ed...$2 superfecta, $2 trifecta, $10 exacta. That race was teh beginning of a mostly dry spell for me at the Red Mile last Saturday.

Nothing for anyone else to say, it's already all been said.
Worst call in a long time. Hope they win the appeal, problem is too many people piss in the same pot... Would be more of a fuss if they overturned than if not.

Elgin you are losing it. ;) This will not be ruled on for way over a year or more. . and you will have a hard time even trying to find out which way it went if you don't know the parties involved.
