Title: Balmoral Minutes Till Post
Post by: Headpole Dave on September 09, 2012, 08:29:57 PM
So I'm betting Rideau tonight and watching Balmoral... Balmoral reads 2 MTP while Rideau says 7 MTP. I'm thinking I'll just watch my race at Rideau and catch the Balmoral replay (Balmoral 9th race). I watch the race at Rideau, my horse wins, gets his picture taken and race is official. I switch over to Balmoral... Still hasn't gone yet. It's that slow. I couldn't believe that!

This is something that needs to be universaly addressed.
I forget which track I was watching. Maybe Batavia?
But when the clock got to 0 they would still warm the horses up for a lap. It was at least 5 minutes before the start.
The way Mohawk conducts races is admirable.

Whats the point of a clock if when its at 0 MTP you have at leat 5 minutes?
Just turn it off and put it at 0 in between races.

This is one of my pet peeves.
Like the bad morning lines so many tracks put out that are accepted now.

This whole MTP issue does need to be dealt with.  Fines that rise significantly for each repeat offense should be levied against the tracks.  Earlier this year while in the Balmoral press box I was told that its come to the point "zero minutes til post" really means "about zero minutes til horses come on the track" then add another 7-10 minutes quite often for post parade, scoring down and going to the gate.  It really is a very sloppy way to present "the show" and to interest fans.  A few years ago in the Northfield paddock we were told to pay no attention to MTP because its meaningless.  Balmoral and Northfield seem to be consistently the worst.  Hazel Park and Northville are also bad.

Just keep in mind that at 0 on the clock is when the post parade starts, so it is usually 5-8 min. Before the race starts. I don't know why they started this.  I spoke with the starter and he said they are always calling down and saying 4 more minutes.

I was playing the red mile and watching balmoral, their post times are just as bad as Nflds. As soon as the track I am playing is done, Balmoral is turned off instantly!

Enough! What a bunch of prima donna cry babies!  I hardly ever play Northfield, but when I do I know what to expect.  Adjust, that's life.  No big deal.  No problemo!

What's a real pain in t'arse is when you're driving a nasty, pulling SOB and they keep delaying the start. Dave Magee gave me some golden advice when I was starting out: as soon as they call you to the gate, put the rat's nose on it and let go... you'll get 15-20 seconds to get some blood back into your arms before the start. I used that advice more than once.

All you need is a 5 minute countdown clock until the gate starts rolling, and people will be watching...  At point a track needs to do something different than stall.

I take it into account and just wait until the horses go through the post parade.  Only negative is that it makes me leave earlier when I see a race have 18 minutes to post and I don't feel like waiting 25 when it will be on replay when I get home.

You are right, enough is enough. They won't get a dollar of my money ever again. f**k them. And when they go back to the real post and put 15 on the clock and have the horses come out with 8, then they can get my money again.

The racing sucks, the money will be gone at the end of the year, there are only 5 horses on the gate with a full field of 10 on Super Night Elims!  A Complete joke. So to top it off, they now have to have different post times? My money can go to better use.
