Title: JUG DAY CONTEST!
Post by: pezz97 on September 03, 2012, 09:24:04 PM
Since almost everyone here will be following the Jug day card, I am going to run a contest for it.

Here is how it will work.

You pick one horse per race on the main card.

You will get $10w/p on that horse, and whoever has the best total at the end of the day will win $100 from me.

If your selection is scratched, you will get the post time favorite.

For those of you interested in this please respond to this thread.

Thank you

Ok I'm in .  If I win Pezz can donate the money to any standardbred charity he wants.
I'm not sure why the cracked piece of  pottery gets everyone excited. I hate racing on a 1/2 miler.

I think half mile tracks are more casual fan friendly.  Most of the time at a mile track I end up watching the screen and at that point I might as well just watch on tv at home.

Lockjaw, why would you post a pic of a field of trotters on a Brown Jug thread? rflmao1      (I love the stride on the #6 horse) We'll be in the area in turn 3 at the right side of that picture. Looking forward to seeing all the ITS folks.

Dolfan....that bunch will not be hard to find trust me!  ;D

In case you get lost, find the concession stand just past the 3/4 pole and head straight back, you will find them (that is if you want to be seen with them).  ;D

turn 3 would be correct. a half mile track has 4 turns.  one on each corner.  i'm married to the trackman extrordinaire.  i know these things whether i want to or not.  slaphead

Not to nitpick but if that photo is nearing the start, turns 1 & 3 would be out of the picture making that turns 2 &  4.

Ok....now I am confused........in the upper left hand corner you see the barn with the maroon stable sign? (Brown Stable)  Isn't that turn 3?

Sorry for the misunderstanding. It's more of a NASCAR reference. I was referring to where the horses headed down the backstretch start into the final turn.

The photo was taken near the start.  Here's a "stitched" panorama from that point of view.

My head is spinning and I'm getting dizzy just thinking about it.  If it turns out I don't submit any picks, you know I have fainted.  Cal 911

The Half mile track at Delaware has 4 turns.   The Browns barn in the upper right hand corner sets on turn 3 .    The barns behind Ron Stecks helmet on the left is turn 4.   So going around twice for the mile  would be going around 8 turns.    It is the bank and the surface of the track that makes it the fastest half mile track in the world.

Also the outside "top" of the track is somewhat flat.  That is where everyone usually jogs daily so they are jogging on a level surface and not on a slope all the time.  That is why the 7 and 8 hole is such a disadvange on a half track.  When they say go your horse in the  7 & 8 hole have to come across a hump to get to the inside of  the track while the 1 thru 6 can slingshot right across . Some also jog both ways of the track to keep both sides of the horse conditioned the same.
