Title: How many horses do they start with?
Post by: jug on August 01, 2012, 06:34:06 PM
Barns like Herb Levan, Marty Wollam, Brian Brown seem to have multiple horses in every night! In the Browns case 11 on a single card.

My question is how many young horses do these stables start with each year?

They had 10 on Saturday at the Meadows and one the night before at the Meadows........I think at one time Jenny alluded to 11 in, but she just meant they were over there with 11 total.

Not sure how many B started out with this year.

OverDover had on her Facebook last week, Don Eash had 33 in at whatever Indiana fair she was at...........UNREAL!  thumbsup

I'm almost certain no one is going to top Don Eash for number of horses into race.  he is insane  ;) and probably breaks  at least 60 yearlings every year.  I don't know which icon is appropriate  this one  bowdown or  this one shootme  LOL

When I was a kid, Don Busse (Daryl's Dad) would pull into a fair with 2 semis packed with horses. They'd throw all the harness in a pile next to the semi. The horses wore different equip from start to start. Don would go into the speed office with a stack of eligibilty papers for pacers, and another for trotters. He'd toss them on the table and say, "Put 'em in where you need 'em." Then he'd check the draw to see how many drivers he was going to have to round up. He'd walk the barn area asking people if they had a USTA license, and if they'd drive for him. Then he'd say, "That's the horse right there, getch some harness out of that pile."

They were all about half broke and wild. He was a Gypsy's Gypsy. rflmao1

Kind of on subject........paddocking one night for Chet Dewbree at Raceway Park..........got the horse off the track and by the time the next race was turning to the gate, I was loading him in the trailer............I kept saying....."you want his feet packed?  His harness cleaned?"  Nope, that's what I got grandkids for.........I think I did do his legs and he paid me $25......the going rate for the time.......... idunno
