Title: Another Purse Increase for Scioto Downs
Post by: LVGaryD on July 12, 2012, 01:22:30 PM
Purses at Scioto Downs are just like the temperatures this summer -- they keep going up, up, up.

Scioto implements its third purse increase in the past month when it begins its Thursday through Saturday racing schedule this week.

Have the time longer between races, so that when people show up at 9:45 they will still have to pay to park and $1.75 to get in.

You can get in free with a student ID.  The guy that does the admissions does not ever mention that fact to younger college age people walking in.  I have heard the woman tell people of this when they were coming in though.  I get annoyed when they chase their potential new fans away.

Raceway Park south is back to being Ohio's Showplace of Racing. Charlie Hill is smiling somewhere.

Really nice to see Ohio's horsemen sticking together and helping each other out.

Actually I think they are........much ta-do is being made about nothing..........upper class horses are not going to have much trouble getting in to Scioto........bottom, class of course............there has been close to 250 horses in the box each draw........if you are trying to ship a cheaper horse two hours down the road to race for $3000 you are getting in ever other week at best and in essence racing for $1500......you might as well stay home and save the expense.

Each track has in their contracts provisions for the race secretaries to refuse entries when classes are full........it's just rarely if ever been used at Northfield, which is another argument at times entirely.............where I had a problem was the whole "track committee" approval idea...........NO ONE likes the Meadows situation and frankly to me it smelled similar.

If the race secretary has power to limit entries then that is all the farther it need go...........this mini-civil war need never to occurred.

Mini Civil war.  rflmao1  Ohio's horsemen have had this war since long before you knew how to spell horse, Amy. I always loved getting into it with Terry Holton, Bruce Riegle, Wayne P. Nickells, Dick Richardson, et all. They always thought they were superior horsemen, but without old Doc Davis, we all knew they were not even close to us guys from up north.
