Title: Barn to Wire
Post by: Danville on April 15, 2012, 11:21:17 AM
I used to post over there using another screen name. Left when the idiot,"macdaddi", came around. Check in every once in a while. Lately the forum has begun to look like "Plop II". I thought Janine was better than that.
Place sounds like a house in Vegas, with a rotunda.

Since the former deviled egg site  shut down(again), the egg eaters have gone to BTW.  I've been a member there for a long time.  But have never really posted an awful lot. Not much at all of late!

Complete shithole operated by an enabling scumbag. Stark is no better than Dakuras, she's a huge fan of the Juice/Pig child molesting charges. She let's the scum make their claims and if you respond she censors you. There is no difference between her and Dakuras/TC.

I've been a member of BTW for many years, though I have not posted nor even read the site in quite some time.

Janine is also a member here and is a friend of mine. She has helped me several times and is always willing to help if I have software problems.

As I said I have not looked at her site in quite a while, but she can run it any way she sees fit to run it.

A lot of people don't approve of the way I run this site. I've had people say I let people get away with too much here, others say I censor this site too much. We even lost a good member because he likened me to Hitler because I won't allow people to use the worst swear words here. My thoughts is that anyone who doesn't like the way this or any other site is run can leave and start their own site.

(Hint-it's a pain in the ass and it is costly!) 4pezz2

I concur , once the the other site shut down they all paraded down BTW avenue and Janine doesn't see it or doesn't care. I deleted my account of blind switch as soon as I saw it coming.

I have not been there in at least a week and half.

Gary ,

This is one of the reasons your site is good , you have morals and standards.

When it comes to Asian women and massages that's another story rflmao1

In all seriousness, I would love Asian women without the massages too. I love theoir work ethic, morals, plus the fact that they listen for the first few years you are together.

FWIW, In my book Janine's a star. (No reflection on Gary and his superb efforts).

Every time that other site goes down (happens frequently) BTW is inundated with temporary imbeciles looking for a place to rant until their glorious home reopens.

Janine allows it because some of these imbeciles were former and longtime BTW participants.

Anybody whom objects to a thread at BTW that is outside the forums rules, simply needs to click on the "report to moderator" and if the violation is outside the rules, Janine will remove it.

Personally, I just keep adding all these noobs to ignore.  They'll be gone shortly, however if they ever return to BTW, I sure don't wish to read any of their nonsense.

H Plop will no longer exist and they will continue come over.

Janine has her protected favorites Sam aka macdaddi , juice junkies , honest and balanced terry. She actually called me on my cell phone and b*tched me out for posting a ruling on the USTA about sam's uncle in Florida?
She has lost all my respect!!

Not necessary, how do you know I'm worthy of your respect ;)

you are dead wrong. (lawsuit)

Been wrong before, and Ill be wrong again.
I just don't see being wrong as a moral disgrace, rather a turn in the road of greater awareness.

From Sept 5, 1929 Trotter and Pacer mag:

May E. Grattan and Sweet Echo Star at Essex

Flambo Beats Bronx in Biggest Upset of Green Mountain Circuit Meet

ESSEX JUNCTION, Vt., Aug. 30.

RACING at the Champlain Valley Exposition closed this afternoon after five days of high class sport. Fields were not large, as a rule, but excellent contests were put on, Harry Brusie was top driver, winning five races.

The meeting opened Monday with two class races and the three-year-old trot. Trudy Guy won the colt event, taking a new record of 2:09 in the first heat. Heatherbell came from the rear to win the last heat, trotting the last quarter in :301/2. Prince Forbes captured the first two heats of the 2:20 trot while Dr. Voorhees was executing toe dances, but Rodney got the Doctor down tobusiness in the third, which he won handily. Gypsy Star won the 2:15 pace, dropping the last heat to Scott Grattan.

Tuesday brought:, an unevenful program. Harry F. won the 2:24 pace and Anna P., the trot, both in straight heats. Ortolan Brooke won, the two-year-old trot for Harry Brusie, after dropping the first heat to Maidstone because of a break. Wednesday was a good day for the Canadians, pacers from over the border landing two of the races. Willis Grattan, thanks to Harry Brusie's reinsmanship, came out on top in the 2:12 pace, although losing the last heat to Pax Volo. Beryl Grattan won every heat in the 2:20 pace, stepping three heats. better than 2:10. Plucky returned to the winning column in the 2:07 trot. There were blanket finishes between the-three contestans each heat. Miss Neva got the decision in the first heat, equalling her record of 2:081/2, but the stallion won the other two, racing on the outside. Lee Gadsby won the 2:24 trot in straight heats.

Thursday, before a crowd of 20,000 people, the best racing of the week was presented. The only four beat contest of the meeting' in the 2:12 trot, enlivened things greatly. It resulted most surprisingly in the first defeat Bronx, 2:041/2, has suffered on a half-mile track since early in June and the trotter that beat him was Flambo, which has been chasing his half, brother around without avail all summer. Bronx took the first heat, Lee Winder the second and Flambo the third, the latter taking the race-off. There is every probability, however, that Bronx would have won had -he been steady. Sweet Echo won the 2:17 trot, trotting the first heat in 2:071/2. The four-year-old stood out over her field but dropped the last heat to Radium because of a break. Neill Frisco, as incorrigible as ever; won the 2:10 pace in straight beats. He practically refused to score with the field but each time came from far in the rear to beat the lot.

The speed crown of the meeting was awarded today to May E. Grattan, which paced the first beat of the 2:17 pace in 2:051/4 in beating Chattanooga. The daughter of Calumet Grattan stepped a last half in 1:01 and a last quarter in :291/2. Matthew J. Dillon captured the three-year-old pace in straight heats while Lee Gadsby became the only double winner of the week by taking the 2:28 class.

Don, is the Grattan name based on family name, farm name, or geological location? That name is in a lot of pedigrees, but I never knew where it came from.

Disagree completely.
Most of the crap. Like postings of photos of peoples kids etc etc at the scum site was done and condoned by the admin that was there. Thats why they are being sued and arent coming back.

Gary nailed it. She is a nice person. Who is trying as hard as she can and its a thankless job. I have issues with every admin out there. Including her.

But shes nothing like the scumbags. Not close.

That's your opinion 3 wide. I was subjected to the same "child molesting" bullshit that the two pillars of stupidity throw at everyone and it was condoned by her personally. She allowed it to remain and censored anything I wrote. She may be a higher grade of filth, but not by much... I've found her to be as closed minded and hypocrital as anyone I've met on any harness forum. Look at her board now, it's just the rats from the sunken ship and a few other quality people like yourself and Don.

I never fully understood the conflict.
To me you both seem like good people trying to do the right things.

But I really dont know the whole of it.

Shes usually really good about taking down inappropriate stuff.

She seems to thnk people "pick" on some of the really stupid posters ( you know who they are). When to me there is no other way to handle them.

Anyway I try to get along with and respect everyone if I can.
Although there are some who do not deserve any respect.

There always seems to be a backlash at BTW when **** melts down and perhaps it is because of old battles and extricated BTW posters.  Miss J is a good egg in my book as she has handled the onslaughts from 1995 onward the best she can.  Do I agree with what is allowed now vs. years past .... ABSOLUTELY NOT.  But I appreciate the challenge.

Out-with-the-old and in-with-the-new ... things change and if Harness Racing or Mid-west Racing 'aint your priority .... be gone or don't fret about it !!!

doc,
The article was outdated even at publication.
Although my websites remained active for another six years (then stopped for 2.5 and resumed one recently), I'd already made the transition to focus upon the archival of the old periodicals.

With more than 20,000 articles and 24,000 images, the numbers grow daily as the work progresses.

FWIW, there are other folks whom are genuine historians, unfortunately they do not participate in these web forums.
Dean Hoffman is somebody whom has no parallel.

Many thanks for the kind words.

Don,

Have you been to the Joe O'Brien museum in PEI? There are some really great treasures there.

Dave,
I rarely go out of the house (I may melt).
Some years ago the daughter of the folks that run the PEI museum contacted me.
I offered to create a section of my then websites for the museum and it was active for about seven years. Despite all the links, the pages never drew much traffic, and thus I never expanded the pages as I originally intended.

Upon the reactivation of this website in early Feb-2012, I omitted much material from the two former websites. The O'Brien PEI pages were one of those omissions.

FWIW, I've never been to the museum in Goshen either. Perhaps I'll get there some day, perhaps I won't.

Hell! just last April was my first visit to the USTA (and the last time I was in Columbus previous to 2011 was 1973).

I'd like to visit the Floral Barn at Lexington and that may materialize some day. There is a large quantity of publications and memorabilia there that is not on display and uncatalogued.

The real issue is that all these visits would be out-of-pocket and without any possibility of even bare expenses.
I've turned down uncompensated-work that would take a long period of commitment, despite the projects being of immense historical worthiness.

The real problem with all this historical stuff is that the industry is struggling to survive today, and history is pretty far down the priority list.
The museum recovers some costs because their a 501k, however I've no such possibility. My two websites, active for eleven years resulted in a handful of donations.

About a year ago, I started some work on 1960s publications and the overwhelming response for more, more, and more free materials was something I was not prepared to deal with. Thus I abandoned the 1960s. If there comes a time that I resume the 1960s perhaps everybody with the FREE-demand will have died by then ;)
 Nobody wants to pay.

The websites offer a resource and/or references to gather contacts outside the normal industry channels.
Just recently I had a contact from a relative of George Ford Morris, and in the past there have been numerous others that have used the contact to request information. The result of their contact provides a reciprocal possibility as well.
The family of Sanders Russell some years back has created a continuous communication.

The O'Brien museum is one of the best "hidden treasures" in the world of harness racing bar none. The fact that it is located on PEI happens to be a plus in our mindss. The wife and I love the place.
Will have to get back there again. Everyone should take the time to see both the museum and the island.

A couple of years back I was contacted by a tenant in Joe O'Brien's former home in Cal.
The gent misunderstood his landlord and believed all the O'Brien memorabilia stored there to be worthless.

I had to jump through some hoops to get a contact with Stan Bayless, however the tenant was informed of his misunderstanding.
