Tioga Downs is gearing up for a holiday weekend of live racing action that features three race cards (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) along with plenty of giveaways and promotions.
In celebration for the fourth of July Tioga will host a nine race card that begins at 6:50 pm followed by a fireworks display immediately following live racing. Tioga will also be giving away car sunshades to guests while supplies last.
In the $13,000 featured fillies and mares open handicap pace Lucy Lucy and Jimmy Marohn Jr. will look to work off of their track record performance of 1:52 in last week’s open event. Michael Deters trains the 5-year old daughter of Tough Sir-Small Change for owner Jay Sears.
The duo will leave from post position four in a field of seven slated for race eight of the nine race card. Last week’s 1-5 beaten favorite Paper Cut and Howard Parker will look for revenge after they cut the fractions last week, but faded to third. Chris Oakes trains the 4-year old daughter of Northern Luck-Paper Bright, who carries a lifetime mark of 1:49.4 which was set this year at Pocono Downs. Susan Oakes and Chuck Pompey own Paper Cut, who has banked more than $62,000 in 2009 with four wins in fifteen starts.
