TWO ‘CAPPING CONTESTS ARE BETTER THAN ONE- Northfield’s free-to-enter Sunday Gulfstream Park Handicapping Contest has been so popular that the track is adding a Thursday contest on Tampa Bay Downs starting February 11. The contests offer $900 in cash prizes, with $500 to each weekly winner. Simply pick the most winning horses on the host track’s racing card (with combined mutuel payoff as a tie-breaker) and make sure you are at the track when the contest ends (you must be present to win). The contests on both tracks are open only to Northfield Park Players Club members, but have no fear, you can join the club instantly if you are not already a member. Ed Lajeski of Parma Heights was the $500 first place winner of Sunday’s Gulfstream contest.
EAT, DRINK AND BE MERRY- Not that your humble scribe needs an excuse to eat too much. (Take that, Dr. Kent), but the bosses here are giving me an even better excuse during Valentine’s Weekend. Friday and Saturday, February 12 and 13, Lady Luck’s Clubhouse Restaurant features a $29.99 per couple buffet special from 6 PM – 9PM. The all-you-can-eat extravaganza includes two hand-carved, slow-roasted meats, a number of other entrees, vegetable du jour, dessert bar and the market fresh salad bar. HUGE HOLIDAY WEEKEND- The Valentine’s/President’s weekend features promotions Thursday through Monday. As mentioned above, there are free-to-enter, $900 handicapping contests Thursday and Sunday afternoons, the Lady Luck’s buffet Friday and Saturday, and then Monday, President’s Day, it’s the return of Spin And Win for one day only. On February 15th, which features a special noon simulcast opening, Northfield Players Club members get a chance to Spin and Win cold, hard cash. No t-shirts, caps or concession coupons. Just money. Spin And Win is available for the first 15 minutes of each hour from Noon through 9 PM and everyone who plays is a winner.
