I only seriously play WEG and M1 and odds play a big role in how I bet:

If the odds are short (3-1 or less), I look for a chalky exacta that I can bet heavily.  If I don't have a confident second place finisher, then I pass on the exacta and tri and look for a super or pick3.

If the odds are about 5-1 to 10-1, I will often key the top choice in exactas with several second place finishers at various amounts.  I consider a pick3 as well.

If the odds are 15-1 and higher, I start with a heavy win bet and toss in a few exactas.  I probably avoid the pick3 unless there is a confident single (or double) in either of the other legs.

The pick4 is IMO the best play because they very often pay much better than betting $1 on the first leg winner and then parlaying the winnings on all of the winners of the other legs.  Also, if most true players invest about $50 to $80 in the pick4, the payoffs increase significantly when you can land "outliers" (which I define as horses that are the 4th favorite or worse) because most players have the top two or three favorites covered and there is a substantial dropoff in live tickets when an outlier/longshot wins.  If your budget is about $80, I feel that you are better off partnering with someone and sharing a $160 ticket because you cover more outliers that can lead to much higher payouts.

I always start by capping the pick4.  If I don't like it or don't think I can hit it, I will often pass on the entire card.
I agree with the part of starting by capping the pick 4 first, but i disagree with not playing it. If I am planning on playing that night, I don't care if i think if it is impossible or easy, I play  rflmao1

If you can't find a partner to go with your picks there is always the 40 or 60 cent option.

WEG's early pick 4 pools are going through the roof since they introduced the 20 cents option to the US Players.

On Monday last (Jan 9) the early pick4 pool was over 75 grand well over the guaranteed 50 grand.

Certain tracks I like to play. The BigM, WEG tracks, Sunday Balmoral, and the
Red Mile. if I am at the track and up I will play Cal Expo(late pk4).

I like Pezz , if I am at the track I am playing the Pk 4 even if I don't like it, I just play a smaller ticket.

I handicap the pk 4 first, I try to find a single. If I find one I will expand in the other legs, sometimes using the all button. At the WEG tracks I usually pass if I can't find a single or decide to split the Pk4 up into 2 pick 3's because for a $1 ticket is to costly. After playing them as pick 3's. I play .20 tickets on pk 4.

I don't play to many pk 4s at WEG if I don't think I can hit it multiple times.
I try to maximize my play there.

I rarely bet to win. If odds are right I will play the exacta, but not normally.
I play supers if I can find 2 horses I like and play them 1,2/1,2/all/all and then 1,2/all/1,2/all . I have caught a lot of big supers this way.
I am trying to find my spots on the supers.
But mainly am just a pk 4 player. I use a lot of angles.

On Fridays, it is always my 5th rated over my 8th, 9th and 10th rated and of course reverse them...As to the pic 4s, never play the favorite in the third leg.  rflmao1 rflmao1 rflmao1
