When Colts Were Colts And Horses Were Horses

I have been "out of the business" since the late 1980's so forgive me for my ignorance. I thought that a male horse that was 2 or 3 years old (that was not a gelding) was listed as a "colt" and a 4 year or older male horse (not a gelding) was listed as a "horse". I think it is now the same for fillies and mares? When I look at the current USTA results they list a 2 year old (not a gelding) as a horse. When did this listing status change?

There's probably NOT been any change is status, rather a universal designation that will keep the database functional.

 Imagine the confusion if a colt was listed as such, then next time as horse and later as a colt?

 I looked at the Pathway FAQ and the only explanations are in regards to Pathway-itself.

 Best chance of any clarification would be to contact David Carr or Anne Chunko of the USTA. You may even call them by looking the USTA Contacts page.

You should see some of the inconsistencies (even odd) designations of color in some of 1920s and 1930s magazines.

There's been a few real-good horses that race as ridglings. The trainers didn't wish to take a chance on ruining their success and left them so.

Shady Breeze is a ridgling. Is how I noticed in the program and learned what it meant.

May be showing my age but Cam Fella was hands down the best ridgling ever.

What did he win, 27 or 28 in a row at one point when he was 4? 

And he did it against the best on the East Coast, in the Midwest and in Canada.
