A true legend RIP> redrose

Saw the Branson ad.  Was at Branson many moons ago before all the entertainment venues were there.  Rented a cabin on the lake and took the family there for vacation.  I have no plans to return.  Well, maybe when I'm 80.

Nobody could rip your heart out like the possum, nobody. I saw Sinatra doing an interview one time and

he was a huge George Jones fan, the chairman of the board said George was the 2nd greatest crooner

of all time.

I saw George perform live either three or four times. The last time was when I took Pamela and Ryan to see him a year or two ago out here in Las Vegas.

I am so happy I got to take them-Ryan loved him as much as I did.

When George sang this song at the show, tears leaked from Old Gary D's eyes.

Gonna plead ignorance here (I know who he is and how iconic) but where did the possum nickname come from?

Many say it was the shape of his nose (and his face) that gave him the n/name although I can't think of anyone who claims the distinction of giving the name to Jones.
I prefer to recall him as "No show Jones" for his affinity for missing his performance dates. I saw him, in person four times, from a honky tonk on Cape Cod (of all places) to the stage of the Grand Ol' Opry. Also had seats at three other events where he was a "no show".
He did some good stuff over his many years if you were a country music fan.
"Walk through this world with me" and  "She thinks I still care" are probably my favorites although a song he did with Ray Charles will always be in the back of my mind. They did, "We didn't see a thing" back in the early 80's. You have to see the irony in that one to appreciate it.
You can be pretty sure there is tyranny in the country when the government pleads the fifth
Amendment !!

George Jones :
"I had an album out with a side view of me with a crew cut. I was very young, and my nose looked more turned up, and I've got little beady eyes so I guess I did look like a possum! So they both laid into me and called me 'Possum,' and it got everywhere. There was no way I could stop that, so (I thought) I'll just have to live with that!"

I really liked one ballad he did, I think the title was "The Grand Tour". He did well with "The Race is On". He did greatly resemble a possum in his young pics, and was very well known to climb into a bottle and not show up for a concert.

One of the all time greats, it's a great loss. Many beverages were hoisted and consumed during Jones songs over the years. RIP.
