Five days before Mindy McCready died of an apparent suicide, she dipped into a dark despair after she was reportedly served with a proposed court order that would send her two sons to live with her long-estranged mother in Florida.

Private investigator Danno Hanks, who knew McCready for several years, told People that the mom to Zayne, 10 months, and Zander, 6, had "lost all hope" after receiving the notice from the Arkansas Department of Human Services' Division of Children and Family Services.

Hanks told the magazine, “She said, ‘I’m losing my kids. I can’t live without my kids!’”

McCready’s troubled life came to an end at age 37. Police said she shot herself in the head at her Heber Springs, Ark. home, the same spot where her boyfriend David Wilson died five weeks earlier. The star also shot her defenseless dog.

A police source told People that authorities arrived to a harrowing scene: “Food was out, it smelled really bad, the dog had pooped everywhere on the floor.”

The source added that bottles of prescription pills could be found on the night stand, the bathroom and on the kitchen counter.

The country singer had a lengthy struggle with addiction and mental-health issues. She had attempted suicide in 2008 when she took a number of pills and cut her wrists, cops said.

She lost one of her twins 10 months ago, all her mental/drug issues, and her man died....what does her mother do?!?!? Files paper to try and take her kids again  She should be charged with her murder. She should have been there to help her own kid hell or high water

Just can't agree. What if she'd also shot the kids along with the dog? To quote Deputy Barney Fife: "Andy, she's a nut!"

Oft-troubled singer Mindy McCready finally has some good news, although a little less than she thought  She and David Wilson welcomed a baby boy on Monday (April 9).

"[He] is truly a blessing and a joy," McCready says in a statement. "It was a long and trying pregnancy; we're so happy he's here. There are no words to convey how happy we are."

Now as for the part that was less than expected. 

In Nov. 2011, McCready said that she was pregnant with twins. As for the confusion, her spokesperson tells  E!, "At the time of the initial announcement surrounding Mindy's pregnancy, in consideration of her size, Mindy was certain she was carrying twins; a misinterpreted sonogram seemed to support her feelings and excitement."

It's been a different kind of year for McCready. At the same time she announced her pregnancy, she was also dealing with a major custody fight over her 5-year-old son Zander. Things got so bad she was being sought by authorities after taking the boy from his Florida home. McCready later won  a custody hearing in Dec. 2011.

I watched her interview when she was 6 months with twins. Not going to get in a pissing match of when life starts but after miscarring at 17 weeks, years ago, i have never been the same. Imo, Mindys mother should have been there for her while keeping her grandchildren safe.

Like I said I don't know all the facts of her life but no one else does either. Being a father of 7 (6 girls)

and papa of 12 going on 13 any day now (6 girls) I feel that someone let her down. I guess we all look

at things different but trust me if she were one of mine I would have never, ever given up on her.

Like I said I don't know all the facts of her life but no one else does either. Being a father of 7 (6 girls)

and papa of 12 going on 13 any day now (6 girls) I feel that someone let her down. I guess we all look

at things different but trust me if she were one of mine I would have never, ever given up on her.

EXACTLY!!!!! IMO, her mother knew exactly what the court papers would have her do. Mindy's mother was taking the easy way out. God help the kids if they get stuck with the grandmother. Hopefully there will be continuous monitoring of the kids to ensure there is no physical, mental.or sexual abuse to the kids!

Big foot, I hope you guys pick names at christmas. If not, you better start betting the Griz; just sayin'
