Wow. The American Dream stays alive. Husband started a business, worked hard and succeeded. She started a small business (basically farming) and helps out. I was expecting an article on how a combo of Food Stamps, Unemployment, Extreme Couponing and Weekly Garage Sales kept them going.

Seriously, this is not that much different from what happened to me when Northfield let me go. I took a part-time business full-time, and started another. I interviewed a lot and applied for dozens more and got nothing. (HHYF is a contract part-time position, a "client" for my consulting business). There were a couple weeks where some unemployment kicked in, yes. But 2011 ended up being a good year and 2012 is going to be even better, quite possibly my best ever. 2013 has more work on the books for the first half of the year than 2012.

That is what I expected.  On yahoo you should see all the negative comments people are making about the article and the lady.  She is no light weight and many insulting comments are being made.  Hey, guess what dummies, poor folk are often fat due to poor nutrition and escape eating.  People don't want to hear about hard work as an answer to anything.  They want to know how to scam the system to get more free benefits.

Giss, you are a role model for how to handle adversity.  bowdown

Sounds like you have the same approach I've always had Gisser... scratch & claw until you get through it. Of course, if you're you're a huge success you will be punished by the tax code for it.  4pezz2

Punish success and you get less of it. Eventually we'll run out of people to pay the freight on the idle.

ps I'm no where near the top percentiles but I'm very good at math. It can't continue the way it's going.

Saw an alarming statistic today:

SS in 1945: 45 workers paid in for every recipient.
SS in 2011: 2.8 workers paid in for every recipient.

Biggest cause:  We are now living 6 years longer, on average.

Giss, so glad to hear that you are having success.  Good guys can finish 1st!

After this Thanksgiving I am even more fed up with the leftist loons.  A longtime friend of the family insisted that Forrest Gump was a "conservative" movie (because Jenny becomes a druggie & dies).  Additionally, the conservative movie list included It's A Wonderful Life (because it believes in God), In Pursuit of Happyness (because Will Smith works hard & becomes something) & Apollo 13 (can't remember that insane explanation).  When I told him that these traits are wonderfully American, besides just being great movies with no underlying message, he stomped out of the house like a child.  Hopefully he won't be back for a while.

We watched "Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" last night... hadn't seen it in years. Your guest would have probably been pissed-off about that too. Little Charlie Buckett was wonderfully gifted for being the only honest kid of the bunch. How Conservative!

Willie himself has to be seen as a conservative because he was a business owner, making allot of money & had others working for him.  How dare he!

And he, of the evil rich, gave his fortune to a dirt poor kid. Rotten bastard!
