One of the WEG announcers/analysts last night happen to mention that 2011 was the first year of the previous eleven, in which the NAC winner came from the fastest heat elim.

 In the ten consecutive years (prior to 2011), the NAC winner came from the slower elim race.

I am so excited about the Lou and Needy matchup not only in the Cup Final but throughout the year. It reminds me of Ferdinand and Alysheba in the late 80's. It is SO rare that great horses actually have rivals that are their equal especially in harness racing. I just hope their owner's don't begin to try and avoid one another to wait for the Breeder's Crown. Though I believe that Lou will win I think Needy is the only one that can challenge him or beat him right now.

The post positions for the final of the $1.6 million Pepsi North America Cup, the richest race in Canada and richest so far this year in North America for any breed, were drawn Tuesday afternoon at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto. Rich Nash, the top pick of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft and a player for the Columbus Blue Jackets, served as the honourary drawmaster for the event. Nash, who will turn 20 on Friday, was awarded the Rocket Richard Trophy at last Thursday's NHL Awards for being the league's top goal scorer last season with 41 goals in the regular season.

The post position draw was a bit different this year as the winner's of the four elimination races got to pick their posts (after a draw among them for a random selection order) while the rest of the field was drawn in the traditional way. 9-5 morning line favorite and fastest elimination winner Georgia Pacific got first choice and his trainer Randall Bendis selected post four. He has tied the fastest sophomore mark of the season in North America in his last two races, both wins, with 1:49.4 for the mile.

Afraid not. They're both staked to the Meadowlands Pace and the BC, but that's about it. Lou is staked to just about all the opens but Needy is not. Maybe Lexington? Jamieson and company could buy into some of these races, but chances are they've already decided to spend most of the summer in Canada raking in that ONSS dough. This might be the last time anyone has a shot at the big money in Ontario.

Thanks for the info Elgin. I kinda figured as much but was hoping beyond hope that they would match up at least 6 times with all the upcoming stakes. I expect the Jamiesons to enjoy destroying the OSS field for half the year and really be ready to race when they face Lou. I'm still excited, sounds like we will get the matchup at least 2 more times other than the final so, I will savor those races which I expect will break a couple track records maybe even a world record and become classics.
