YONKERS TO REVERT TO FLAT-MILE RACING IN 2012
BY FRANK DRUCKER, Publicity Director, Empire City @ Yonkers Raceway

YONKERS, NY, Wednesday, January 4, 2012 -- When Yonkers Raceway returns for 2012, flat-mile racing does, too.

The Raceway has announced that all races--overnights, series and stakes--shall be contest at the traditional one-mile distance, Yonkers had offered mile-and-one-sixteenth overnight events exclusively since last February.

Any distance exceptions would be indicated on the weekly condition sheet.

Speaking of said sheet, a friendly reminder that the sheet for the first two racing dates of 2012 (Friday-Saturday, Jan. 13-14) is now available on-line (www.yonkersraceway.com, then go to "racing "icon). The condition sheet for the first full week of racing (beginning Monday, Jan. 16) is to be available shortly.

Also available right now are nomination blanks for Yonkers' early '12 series, the Petticoat and Sagamore Hill Pacing Series (both close Wednesday, Feb. 1), as well as the Blue Chip Matchmaker and George Morton Levy Memorial Pacing Series (both close Thursday, March 1).

Please note that nomination blanks for these series shall also begin appearing in various harness publications and their on-line counterparts, as well as the nightly racing program once the season gets underway.

For any question or further information, please contact the race office at 914-457-2627.

Does that mean they are moving the start pole or are they going to still race a long mile, but only time the end mile like Maywood does?

The Pole has not been moved so a bigger disadvantage, again for the outside horses.
