I have mixed feelings about horse slaughter. I would never knowingly eat a horse, I also think the anti-slaughter folks take it too far.

Wild mustangs should never be slaughtered, nor should any healthy horse in my opinion. I know people who used to go round up all free horses and take them directly to the slaughterhouse-a purely profit thing for them...all the while assuring the old owner that they horse would go to a very good home. To me, that is just plain wrong.

On the other hand, I happen to know that with the current hay and grain prices, many animals are being turned loose in the wild to fend for themselves. These horses will get quickly sick and die or be killed by wild animals. I'm not so sure they would not be better off going straight to the slaughterhouses.

The meat could be used to feed the OWS group.  They would like it.  Would make them feel closer to their European kinfolks.  I also have mixed feelings.  I wouldn't eat it either, but I always liked any cow or steer I met, or buffalo.  And, I'll eat them.  So, I guess I have no right to throw stones at horse-meat lovers.

The anti-slaughter law has led to a lot of horses being starved to death inside of fences when the owners couldn't feed them.

I have never knowingly sent one to a slaughter house, but I would much rather a horse(or myself) died instantly than die of thirst or starvation.

About 125,000/yr were slaughtered prior to the ban, which means +/- a million every 7 years or so. Add to that number the ones that are foaled every year and you'll quickly reach a point where they all can't be cared for.

It's a sad reality, but there's not much of another way to overcome the sheer numbers.

I guess if they humanely did it I would live with it but I don't like it one bit, I just read too many

stories of them suffering and not following the rules. I know I would never ever think of eating it,

it would be just like  eating a pet to me.

I don't give a shit how much the f**kin government makes an attempt to inspect them. the kill pens and saughter houses for horses are  attrocious and  inhumane beyond your imagination.  Been there in person!!!!!!!!!! Seen it. Been in cattle and pig slaughter houses too.  WAYYY DIFFERENT!!!!!!!!!!!The bastards will try to tell you they are killed instantly but MOST horses DO NOT DIE INSTANTLY.  MOST OF THEM!!!!  It is horrendously inhumane.  But the way this supposedly CHRISTIAN CIVILIZED COUNTRY  abuses children & others what hell about a horse.
