Mickael Barzalona the jockey who won the 10 Million dollar purse World Cup Dubai standing up in his stirrups even before the race was over. Then on his way to the winners circle he falls down from the saddle. Its all caught on video below.
The commentator even mentioned that it is quite silly what he does and one day could end in disaster. He also said that the stewards should fine him heavily.

It certainly was a crowd pleaser. But it'll bite him in the ass someday. He better hope a very good horse doesn't get hurt because of his antics... he doesn't want to be on the list of jocks not to use.
ps Must've been "Ugly Nurse Day" at the track. Did you see the mugs on all those gals dressed in white, wearing scarves? An electrolosist could make a fortune working on them.

Gary: The thing I liked about those 'dressed like Jesus' Sheikhs is they are all loaded and they love racin' t-bred horses. thumbsup
Only wished they were into the harness side as well.

I was in Lexington last fall and saw several Saudi 747 jets lined up at the airport. They were reportedly private planes owned by the sheiks that were there to fly the yearling purchases home to Saudi Arabia.
Now I used to work for Ridgewood Horse Transportation. I cannot even imagine how much it would cost to ship a horse today from Lexington, Kentucky to Columbus, Ohio, let alone via a 747 to Saudi Arabia. idunno

One thing for sure is going to happen with this in years to come.
The American's will not be going anymore now that it is Tapeta.
There is what 1 maybe 2 tracks in the U.S that has it and they are small tracks.
Yeah the money is insane, but now they don't tell you who is the best horse in the world. 4 years ago, Curlin would not of gone.
This is going to just become a european event, cause yeah the money is great, but no trainer in their right mind is going to basically have to shut his horse down for 3 months after going there and then try to get ready for the Breeders Cup.

I Googled and found out that it has something to do with a synthetic turf surface of a t-bred race track which is supposed to be very safe. idunno

It is a synthetic surface. The only 2 tracks in the U.S that have it are Golden Gate and Presque isle Downs. It is a surface that most turf horses like compared to Dirt horses. Most horses with Turf Breeding are better on the Synthetic surfaces, that is why you see less and less American Horses go to Dubai.
3 years ago, when Santa Anita still had their synthetic surface, a lot of the better American horses didn't go cause it was that surface including Rachel. Most European Horses race on Mostly turf, and have a big advantage when racing on a synthetic surface.
As for the 3 months. With the travel to Dubai,the race ,then the travel home, the American horses like The Factor, Game On Dude and Royal Delta, will now have to recover from that travel and won't race in the U.S until the June the earliest. it takes a lot out of the horses.

The World Cup day has become another place to watch and play just the turf races IMO.Tthe race before the World Cup had a couple of nice turf horses and they ran 1-2.
The US needs to set up some kind of set of races for older horses early in the year.
There is NO G1 between the Big Cap in March and The Stephen Foster in June.
If you have an older horse you may as well take a shot at Dubai.I think they pay all the travel expenses for the horse trainer owners etc.It amounts to a paid vacation for many.I am sure Baffert received great care he may not have gotten elsewhere thanks to the Sheikh.

Didn't they have composite on Keeneland at one time? I seem to remember reading that they shipped some standarbreds over from The Red Mile for a demonstration race. Instead of harrowing the surface, they tamped it down with construction rollers. As I remember the times were just a bit slower and the drivers thought it was not too bad. If my foggy memory is correct, then they must have taken it back up and went back to dirt.

Hence, that is why I assumed Keeneland removed it there. Thanks for the rundown... I was too lazy to look it up. 8)

Tapeta - GG, PID
Polytrack - Dmr, Kee, WO, AP, TP
Cushion Track - Hol
SA reverted to dirt a couple years ago, methinks.
