I used to kid around that you had to have a knife fight to get into Hawthorne. Well today two were shot during the races. First time I ever heard the drivers told to take cover and get off the track. So, all you Balmoral and Maywood haters got what you wanted. Welcome to paradise.

Shooting Reported Outside Hawthorne Racecourse | Update
STICKNEY, IL — Several shots were fired outside Hawthorne Racecourse Sunday night during the harness races, sending spectators spilling out onto the course. The shots reportedly were fired in the parking lot as a Belize cultural festival was taking place.
Police from Stickney, McCook, Lyons, Cicero and Chicago responded to the scene near 3501 S. Laramie Ave. in Stickney, as well as four ambulances, at about 8:30 p.m.
“A couple of people” were shot, a dispatcher for Stickney told the Chicago Tribune. An emergency call for "multiple shooting victims" went out at about 8:30 p.m. The condition of the injured was not available late Sunday.

Chicago should be very proud of it's gun control laws. If they shoot enough people there, the state might just turn Republican because the demo are dying one by one at their own hands.

One of my co-workers is from Belize and was at this "cultural festival" until about 10 minutes before the gun shots. He left when he saw things getting out of hand, but his brother stayed. Here's what happened:
The young Belizeans (teens and young adults) were partying pretty good (lots of weed) while enjoying a native rapper perform on stage. The band set to play next (headliner) was supposed to go on at 8pm, but this rapper refused to leave the stage. He just kept rapping. That's when the trouble began. Once shots were fired people began jumping the fence onto the track to flee the scene.
This is not so much about Hawthorne and the neighborhood but instead management making a poor decision to allow this festival to take place on track property. There was private security, but I'm told the rent-a-cops were "participating" rather than enforcing local drug laws.

The drivers were saying after the first race that the pot smell was so strong coming out of the last turn that they wouldn't be surprised is horses tested positive from it rflmao1
