Sale got underway today with just under 300 head selling.
Always go to watch the foriegn money get tossed around and because there are several friends on the dark side that find my interest in the Standardbred humerous if nothing else. Watched maybe 200 of the catalogued critters go under the gavel. There were a tremendous number who did not sell due to the reserve not being met. I'd guess something like 20-25% of the entries in that category.
Saw four, two fillies and two colts, sell for over a million Obamabucks. $1,500,000 the sale topper when I left.
Consensus was that the first day of the sale was less successful than last year and the several RNA's were a concern.
Heard something else that made me wonder. One of my friends is a small time trainer of TB's and usually races three to five head in any given season, almost exclusively here in Kentucky. He has two owners who have been with him close to forever. He employs anywhere from two to four grooms and demands exceptional effort to provide top care for his stock. He claims he was told that if this abomination known as Obamacare is implemented he will be obligated, by law, to provide healthcare to his grooms. Said he would simply fold the tent and quit the business being as he is almost 70 years old as it is.
