The greatest Grand Circuit events in my mind were always the Hambo when it was at Springfield, which in my mind lost a lot of prestige when it moved to the Big M, and of course the Little Brown Jug.

Great article. But I either forgot or never knew you would partake in the other white meat.

I think you meant DuQuoin, Gary. IL has 2 State Fairs: Springfield for the northern portion, and DuQuoin for the southern. The DuQuoin fairgrounds is just beautiful. It's dotted with lakes and has the appearance of a high-end country club golf course. The Hayes family spend a lot of money building that place. Home of The Hambo for many years.

Follow-up column, including a discussion with John Campbell, who was not real pleased with the first column.

Happy days wrote that episode because Henry Winkler was a very good water skier.

How ironic.

At least it sounds like John is making an effort.  Some places still have the "good ole boys" in charge and they have their heads in the sand and their hand in the til .  Hopefully more broadminded, young minds will move the grand circuit forward .

I agree.  My gut says he would like to see even more change, but he is trying to do it without alienating people.

Grand circuit has many problems and certainly they need to make changes.what was a little annoying is that JC went through a laundry list of things that need changed and surprisingly the best they could come up with was"everyone was ok with that".the game is in dire need of leadership and someone like campbell could really make a difference but feathers must be ruffled.
