Trot Insider has learned that a man was arrested after coming dangerously close to causing an accident during Thursday night's card of harness racing at Maywood Park.
The scary incident occurred during the tenth race just past the three-quarter marker as favourite Summer Party was about to clear to the lead around the final turn. A man was close to the rail of the track, and thankfully the drivers and horses were able to avoid him.
The driver of Summer Party, John DeLong was forced to pull up his horse. The pacing mare subsequently made a break in stride and after review was declared a non-starter and refunded. The man was declared an idiot, arrested and taken to jail.

How do they just refund the money on this horse and not declare this a non race? This is part of the pick 4, imagine having this horse that looks like he's going to win, and some idiot runs in front of him causing him to break, and they stick you with the post time favorite instead?

Definitely should of been a no contest. Never seen anything like that aside from the Preakness a few years back.

It was Artax on the undercard, but not in the 99 Preakness. He was refunded, even though other horses were affected too

Very scary. watched the replay several times. The idiot got his few minutes of fame but he nearly was killed. Wow...
