Title: Phil Ivey in a huge dispute with English casino
Post by: LVGaryD on May 12, 2013, 10:06:07 PM
Phil Ivey embroiled in $12 million dispute against an English casino. (http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/the-turnstile/phil-ivey-british-casino-embroiled-dispute-over-payment-032520482.html)

So Phil Ivey allegedly discovered a flaw in which the cards were cut improperly, won $12 million, and the English don't want to pay him? Have I mentioned my near-total disdain for England? What the bloody hell are they thinking about? The man never touched the cards.  idunno

It's sort of like all slot machines say":malfunction voids all plays".  You could win a huge jackpot and the casino could claim it was a malfunction and not pay you.  Of course if that happened to me I'd sue the bastards anyway.  I've never heard of anyone getting their money back because the machine was malfunctioning in favor of the casino.  We know the payouts are set to return a certain %, but what if the card malfunctions and is only returning 50%, not the legal minimum of 83% or whatever it is in a particular jurisdiction.  If you use your player's card, they know who was screwed so the could make it right. All the rules favor the casino.  I don't know what the laws are in England, but I'd tend  to think Ivy is screwed.

About 15-18 years ago on the President Riverboat Casino in Davenport, Iowa. a $5 slot machine was 'malfunctioning' by paying off repeatedly in those big heavy clanky $5 tokens!  It was quite funny actually, as this lady just kept spinning and kept hitting - it was putting out thousands before the Casino gods came down, let her keep what she had but shut down the machine.....she had quite a 'audience' watching this and I was one of them watching and wishing it was me that was raking in all the loot.....
