Title: Ronnie Wrenn Jr
Post by: Gazoo on November 27, 2012, 07:10:00 PM
This kid can flat out drive a horse !!!!

Does anybody know how old he is ?  Would love to see this kid at the Meadows with some stock behind him.  If Dan Charlino can get drives this kid should have no problem, seeing he's a day better than him.

19 or 20. And he will learn to be a good driver, but he is not that good yet.

I don't think Charlino is that bad for Northfield.

This Wrenn kid makes a lot of mistakes, but he has a ton of talent. I should have nailed that last trifecta, but didn't bet it. Wrenn picked off Bee Mischievous, despite her running over a wheel last week at the top of the stretch. He knew he was the best.

I'm liking what I see. Is he any relation to Peter Wrenn?

I loved it- I just said Wrenn picked off Bee Mischievous and he ran over a wheel last week with her when she was gonna jiggy jog.

I should have crushed that.  4pezz2

The last few weeks at Northfield I have been giving extra consideration to any horse he or Chris Page is on.

I wasn't impressed with him at all in Detroit.  He looks like a completely different guy at Nfld.  Sits outside nicely too.

He does a couple of things that young drivers tend to do to cost you money. First of all he overdrives a horse at times to the half or when first up to the three quarters.

Secondly he has blown a couple of turns when I bet him and that cost me two trifectas. Young guys do that  when they are starting out, especially on a half, but it just frosts my balls.

We are talking about Ronnie Wrenn Jr not Aaron Merriman

Aaron has cost me plenty of trifectas too by over driving one, but never by blowing a turn. That is a rookie mistake.

And here again, I am not blasting Wrenn. I still bet the kid, but I get pissed off from time to time when I do.  dorkusinterruptus

Ronnie is a great kid with a bright future ahead of him.  Got his first win in a amateur race at the fair in Holland, Michigan in July 08.  I was there and have the video of it.  He also drove the last horse I owned to a win last December at Sports Creek.....I've always liked him from off the pace or on the engine.  He's really been a major force at Northfield.  Jeremy also noted Chris Page...good eye!  Chris can drive...just needs to stop paying so many fines for dumb things...Chris is another good kid that at his weight could probably also be a jockey!

I watched him much of the summer at Aces...and he can get speed out of horses.  I believe he will be a good catch driver some day...he sure is aggressive enough!   ;D

Ronnie is a very good driver, right now.  He may overdrive some at Northfield, but wait a minute, its NORTHFIELD.  Everyone overdrives.  lol I used him at Hoosier several times this spring and he did a fantastic job.  Drives completely different on a big track, which tells me he is an excellent driver for being so young.

I watched Northfield tonight at Balmoral.  He looks pretty damn good to me.  If he is only 19-20 wow! He could be real good in several years.  You either have Hands or you don't.  He has them.

Wrenn also lost with odds on horses in the 1st 2 races.

Remember, some of the other winners were Larry Ferrari, JD Wengerd, Skip DeMull & Dave Majeski.  And the usual competition included Edward Greeno, Frank Harris, Mike Mullett... So lets keep everything in perspective, okay?

Larry Ferrari and JD are two drivers I would not have an issue with singling in a pick 3, 4 or 5 if I liked the horse.
