I kept hearing it was going to be a landslide.... but the other way.
I also heard Mitt was going to win the popular vote by 7 points! I want that person playing in the same pools as me when I am betting horses...
How about both sides come together the next 4 years, work together for the better good of all the people. What a f**king concept that would be!!!!

we need a national vote for gay marriage and abortion. Once those two issues are settled it will be easier for people to come together.

blame the founding fathers for that one.
It would be hard to get rid of because some of the smaller states would oppose.
If they don't make it by popular vote they could at least have it go by the districts for the House of Representatives, with the person winning the state popular vote getting a bonus 2 for the other votes.

Absolutely totally agree.
And this garbage of an "Election Day" needs to be changed too. In FL the waiting has been 3+ hours in most polling venues for 10 days for early voting & again today. Luckily for me, I live in a small district - virtually no wait. But the long lines were because we had about 8 total BS amendments, long & winded that everyone was seeing for the 1st time.
For Presidential Elections we need a popular vote with just the names of the candidates, pick one & leave. Have the elections for Senate, House, amendments another day.

We can only hope Obama tries to actually reach across the aisle and work with Republicans. He sure didn't do that the first 4 years and the my way or the highway system just doesn't work.
I figure his re-election will cost me at least $200,000. Medicare expenses will double, those plans are already in place. The alternative minimum tax may well cut in and affect millions of middle income tax payers. General tax rates will increase for just about everyone. Stock futures are already lower and who knows how bad it will get. The real shame is our kids and grandkids will be doomed to a lower standard of living, much lower I'm afraid. This is a good time to be an illegal.

We have a huge problem when 60-65% turnout is considered good. We need to make Election Day a National holiday, or stretch it over four days, Saturday-Tuesday (full hours all locations). As a friend pointed out to me- I know a guy who was in Iraq. He saw people stepping over dead bodies to vote. Waiting in line isn't that big of a deal.
-
plain and simple we need term limits on every political office in the land
the president should be elected for 1 six yr term and every senator and congressman to 1 eight yr term
they would have no choice but to try and work together

I would stand in line all day to vote. I don't like early voting, or multiple voting days. I've always lived in IL where tons of people (dead or alive) vote early and often. People in other countries will walk for days and risk being killed just to exercize their right to vote. We need to grow a pair and quit whining.

The right the vote was handed to us, people don't appreciate what they don't work for.

Not all of us have that luxury. Businesses to run, family members to care for and some of us (with flat feet & back pain) cannot stand in line all day.
It is 2012 - if done with just a little common sense we shouldn't have to wait all day.
Anyway, IMO too many ignorants vote. You should have to correctly answer 3 current events questions just to earn the right to vote. I resent the fact that my niece who thinks Canada is one of our states, gets as many votes as I do. Or you do.

It's not what they haven't learned in school that scares me. It's what they are being taught by "teachers" who chose the teaching profession because they want to save the world every ten seconds.

My niece went through the same system as my daughter. My daughter was a high school debate champion and is at a 4 year university & my niece is an out-of-work hair dresser, trying to conjure up a way to collect disability at age 26. There were no teachers teaching that Canada was a state.
My niece is a moron. But her vote counts as much as yours or mine - that's the problem!

I grew up in an all Democrat family... until Jimmy Carter. I saw the light that you can't steal money from responsible and give it to irresponsible. I have no problem helping those who can't work, but not those who WON'T work. During the GWB admin we had unemployment as low as 4.4% locally and there were still a bunch of employment ads in the paper. W did a bunch of stuff I didn't like but the economy thrived until the Dems took over in 2006. If you don't believe me just look at the graphs.
Oh well, it is what it is. We have to live with the results for 4 more years. I just hope Barry doesn't fud it up.

Here in IL the voters re-elected Deric Smith who was caught on tape taking a $7,000 bride from a Fed undercover agent, indicted, impeached, and thrown out of office by his fellow reps. Jesse Jackson Jr was re-elected with 63% of the vote, and he's in a nut ward at Mayo Clinic and under federal indictment, and hasn't been on the job since June. JJJr's wife is a Chicago alderman and he's an IL US Congressman. Their home is in DC. Nobody in their districts have seen them in a long time but they still vote for them.
House speaker Emperor Madigan has a stupid puppet of a governor to order around and Madigan's daughter Lisa is the IL Atty General so nothing can be investigated. State income tax was hiked 67% and the corporate rate by 38%. Other than that everything is just perfect here. (except we're the brokest state in the nation)

Starting to work on my house to make it fit for sale as soon as the housing market ticks up a bit. Trying to decide if I want to race horses again, in which case I'll move a half hour to Indy. Also researching the Carolinas, and have multiple dear friends in Texas that moved there and want us to join them. I'd love to get to warmer climes, and I'm so sick of the way the idiots in charge are ruining my home state of Illinois.

I never wore a uniform much beyond Little League. (except on my job) So I feel I owe so much to the veterans that I work as a volunteer as the treasurer and fundraising chairman for the VFW Men's Aux. We've raised and donated over $13,000 to veterans causes so far this year, and I plan to make that even better next year. You can't do enough for the people who fight for your freedom.
Sometimes it gets to be a pain in the ass, but when we take a big load of clothes, shoes, televisions, toiletries, etc. to the VA Hospital and see the looks on those men and womens faces it's all worth it. Always makes me wish I'd done more.

And those people that fought were out there voting. While there was a low turnout of people that were handed the right to vote.
I forgot you have comprehension issues and will make sure to be more specific next time.

Don't be a prick, Jeremy. Danville was one the guys getting shot at.
This is my Danville story: I asked if he could do me a favor in his area hundreds of miles from me to save me a trip. It was a pain in the kiester for him but he stepped right up and helped me. Keep in mind that we've never met. I asked what I owed him for the effort and he said, "Buy me a sammitch when your're on your way to Bristol for the race." We had it planned to have lunch but his Bride came down sick and he stayed home with her, so we've still never met. Danville is a stand-up guy.
ps I'm still gonna buy that sammitch if I have to make a special trip!

Jeremy, I have read your crap on this board for several years and have rarely commented, but this is the most disrespectful piece of garbage I have ever seen you post. You owe Danville an apology.
-

We have a low voter turnout in this country, I did not fight or get denied to vote for any reason and there are millions of people that hit the jackpot being born in this country that don't care or make an effort to vote because the right was handed to them. A lot of people want it to be a national holiday in the hopes that they would get a paid day off for the privilege of being allowed to vote. I voted to voice my displeasure with every incumbent and appreciate the fact I am allowed to do so without getting gunned down by the current leaders.
-
I have to say that I know several people who've complain incessantly about Bush & Obama and have failed to vote a single time. They do not deserve a voice for complaints.
That said, my state is the joke of all jokes when it comes to voting & counting the votes. My daughter suggested that Florida just be cut off the voting map or we should just choose 3 names in the state to post one vote each & hopefully 2 of them will pick the same candidate. rflmao1
As of this moment Obama leads by some 40,000 votes out of over 8 million! Still counting! shootme
