Kudos to connections of GGGG !
And a hearty rflmao1 rflmao1 rflmao1 rflmao1

What a gutsy performance.! I thought Tetrick would nail him, had a much better trip.

Nice work by Callahan and all the connections.

The sport needs big time head scratchers like Goo.
Horton Hanover is a good example of one that went the other way. A son of Stars Pride, he began his career as a trotter, but was no good at it. But could he pace. Joe O

Two comments along with congratulations to a game winner.
1- Anyone who would name a colt GGGG should be sweeping floors at Dicky Douchebags white elephant in Arlington Heights.
2- Who is the abrasively voiced announcer? Hard to listen to him and his rant.
-
Totally agree Danville on #1
-
I thought TT had it measured just right, but alas I was wrong. I'd love to have either one of the trotters that can trot in 1:52.1!
When I saw the title, "Who was the idiot..." I was really hoping it wasn't about me. I've been known to do some pretty idiotic things. dorkusinterruptus

Hey now!
The catchy name I think is part of why he is always pounded at the window.
My friend had one named Henry the King.

People like betting the name.

Still in the speculation mode.
But it would put me at all 3 trotting triple crown races this year.

Congrats 3ww
I was out there yesterday. Great track. Awful pools.
Didnt really figure the pools to be that small and made a really big wager on Goo Goo right away and he opened up 8-5 and he never went up. Did some calculations after the race and if I bet less he would have paid a lot more. Those pools are horrible. Had I only bet $100, he pays 9-2. I screwed up. They dont bet over there , do they . I wasnt complaining with the result. Best 3 year old trotter by far. Never asked and wasnt as close as many thought. Measured win 3ww thumbsup

I made my money on the Andy Miller win and the teague win.
I bet 60 on goo to win back 109.
But I did get my picture in the winners circle if i can figure out how to get them to mail me one lol.
I am thinking Kentucky fut.
Then off time
then the 2 RCR SS in oct then the matron.
And no hes not in the ss this week.
Wish he was I am going to OD thursday for the Smulin memorial and to see those races.

I dont think goo will goto the BC
Too far away and the horse has done enough.

He has wins in the Colonial, Beal and Simpson, but it will be tough to win the division if he sits out the BC, Canadian Trotting Classic and Zweig. If Market Share adds a win in the BC, or two of the above, to his Hambletonion win it will make him tough to beat. Last year Broad Bahn won the division off of a win in the Hambo and the Zweig. I guess it depends on how much divisional honors matter to Hans, if he still owns him then. A win in the Matron is generally too little too late.

Shtick driven announcers like James, Huston and Larry Lederman tend to be polarizing figures. One group considers Roger a treasure, while others want to vomit every time he turns the mike on.
The effort James puts into pronouncing Takter and Gingras correctly is probably over the top.
-
Shtick-driven? Agreed that the effort toward pronouncing names correctly in harness racing has proven polarising, but likely because it's not something widely done in harness racing in this country. You'll never hear a hockey commentator say Martin Brodeur's first name the same way the "I have a dream . . ." guy's first name was said.
I'd like to think my race calls are EXTREMELY content-driven (how much information do others CRAM into the final quarter!), but please, let's revert back to the topic at hand, a GUTSY mile by Googoo Gaagaa to beat Market Share. The best horse won IMO. When Goo is right, he's proven himself unbeatable.

Couple of thoughts.
I dont think he is going to sell now. Turned down too many oppourtunities. The time to have sold would have been after the Beal.
The BC is just too far.
I definately dont think he is worried about winning horse of the year or other accolades.
Just along for the ride and enjoying himself.
And its awesome.
would I love to see him in the BC? of course. Just dont see it happening.
KY is a 10 hour drive.
Thats one of the good things. Me being in MD and him being out of MD I can get to most of the places he races.

Fair enough, Elgin. :) Listen too to European races, how the English names stand out.
Will be interesting to see how the rest of the year pans out, for sure.

Newest top 10 poll is out. Despite the loss Market Share moves up from 6 to 5 and Goo moves back into the Top 10 at #7. Each got 1 first place vote, so clearly, as it was before, a lot of the establishment is not buying into the Goo phenomenon, He needs one, maybe two more big wins to win the division, unless the others all fall on their faces.
I voted Goo 4 and Market Share 7, but may need to drop MS out to balance out the crack heads who have left Goo off theor tickets.

The politics of the voting is always a shame.
Its bad for college football. But whenever people are involved this will happen.
What was great about Sunday was he did indeed beat them all.

Drop The Ball serves as a good example of how detrimental a BC loss can be to a horse

Revenue has produced a number of failures from good mares and is iffy at best. Goo is an unknown quantity. Proper pricing could be critical in the current marketplace.
-
I think goo is going to be racing for awhile.
Hate even talking about breeding when a horse is on top of his game.
Hes so good for the sport hope he races till 7 or 8. If he stays sound etc etc.
I did hear they got some trotting mares to breed with his daddy.
To see if they can catch lighting in a bottle again.
Unfortunately Goos mom (koras trotter) passed away so wont be any full siblings coming along.

Tri was obviously rigged, paying the same as the exacta.
Just kidding!
Very game - super game, last 1/2 by Googoo.
All 3 trotters raced well. I'm not positive that Market Share's inside trip was the greatest thing for him. Takes some trotters a little more time to get going in the passing lane. Not an excuse & you have to take the trip if you can get it but I think the kindness of that trip is sometimes exaggerated (for trotters).
-
I know what you mean, Dolfan. I had 2 trotters in 2&3 yo old stakes that were just the opposite of each other. It took him awhile to get up to speed, but he could carry it all day if you didn't shut him down. The filly could come out of a hole and accelerate so fast it would snap your head back. Both made good racehorses, but you had to drive them differently.
I thought TT gave Market Share a good steer, but didn't quite get there. It's hard to pull 1st up when you're going a 1:52 shot. jmo

I don't get it with the Futurity. They break in YR Trot, not-eligible for the Hambo & now skipping the KF. That leaves them with only the Breeders Crown. So if they draw poorly in the BC or Callahan gets him hung or roughed up, that's that.
Do they just want to be the greatest MD bred? idunno

The BC is out. Has been since day 1.
What point does the horse have to do for you?
Who else can he beat?
I have re upped my Obama bet.
Thats 200 now.
200 dollars with the second term?
I will be a hillbilly millionaire.

IMO, pretty sad to have the best 3 year old trotter, and not keep having him go against the best. I know they don't care about year end awards but WHY NOT? He is the best 3 year old trotter period, and they didn't know what they had, but why not spend some of that money he made you ( not going to break them) and supplement to these big races, and make even more!!!
Makes ZERO sense, and no wonder he wasn't eligible for the hambo. Blind squirrel theory, which makes all the more reason for them to pay into these races. They will never get this lucky again.

What's the point is having the horse at all?
Why does the horse mean so much to you?
What is it that they're protecting?
No comment on your taking advantage of a sap like Clifton, not to mention the very future of the nation.

The top older male trotter in the sport, Chapter Seven
will likely end his career at the end of this racing season,
reports co-owner Richard Gutnick.

Market Share is not staked to the Kentucky Futurity. That may change, of course, but it would seem that this historical race over the big track offers an ideal opportunity for Goo to go a fast mile, make a splash and earn some cash and prestige. Is he going to race in the Maryland SS, then wait for the Matron, while the rest go in the Zweig, Canadian Trotting Classic, Bluegrass, Ky Futurity and BC?
Market Share is up $400,000 on Goo right now, and he

Well he put Market Share on his ass???
Beating a rival by a neck does not qualify as putting him on his ass.
Why are you so incredibly in love with this horse & owner?

The Matron final is twelve weeks from now. Hans can't hide Goo under a rock in Maryland all that time and expect to be taken seriously.
The notion that Goo won't compete in the BC because Canada is too far away is ridiculous.

Googoo Gaagaa To Rest Until October
By Bill Finley
Googoo Gaagaa's remarkable 3-year-old campaign will not
resume until mid-October, owner-trainer Richard Hans reports.
With the son of Cam's Rocket staked to only a handful
of major races, Hans intends to give him a break until returning
for Maryland Sire Stakes action at Rosecroft. His year
will conclude with the Matron at Dover Downs.
"We've pulled his shoes off and he's sitting in the sun right
now relaxing," Hans said. "I told him the other day that if he
won I'd turn him out. There's nothing out there for him right
now other than the Matron."
After breaking stride in both the Yonkers Trot and the
Stanley Dancer, Googoo Gaagaa was back at his best when
beating Hambletonian winner Market Share in the Colonial at
Philly-Chester.
"He's made $600,000 for us this year, so he has certainly
earned a break," Hans said.
Hans added that Googoo Gaagaa came out of the Matron
in perfect shape.
(HRU)
Who knew. Goo is a regular Mr Ed. He and his owner are putting their heads together and setting Goo's schedule up. What an odd pair.

For once an owner trainer is worried about the horses health.
Not making money selling him or racing him or breeding him.
I think its great.
And he will be racing in 2013 and so on.

For once an owner trainer is worried about the horses health.
it depends on how the training goes when he comes back to the races if the month and a half break will be better or worse for his health.
-
I would always rather give one a rest one race too early than one race too late.
-
This isn't Golden Receiver with eighteen, nineteen starts in him. Goo has started ten times, and he galloped around the track in some of those. He's started in consecutive weeks once, and that was after making a break in the first of the two. Is he tired?
-
Is he tired or is a sore horse that can go on guts "most" of the time. whatever. he has made $600,000 and I would say he is a sore horse with alot of guts and they are taking care of him instead of breaking him down trying to grab more $$$ Kudos to them. If he comes back ,great , if not good for them for taking care of him. I'm sure he will have a good home forever either way. again Kudos for doing what's best for the horse instead of vet work , and cross your fingers , stick him in the box and hope. thumbsup

The Welty and Hans farms are on the same lot in Westminster Md.
Four starz Robro is now 10 I believe. He is in tact and will be bred but he is still racing.
Not many race that long.
They over baby him and take care of him like most people do thier own children.
Its a different approach then the burn them and turn them mentality that os present today.
His 4 year old campain should offer more oppourtunities for him than his 3 year old did. With the small amount of races he was staked to.
-

So they don't really take care of him and put that responsibility on others?
