I got a call from the local police dept. wanting to know if I could provide lodging for 6 horses, so I figured there was someone broke down or in a wreck. Nope... they were heading my way on horseback with a police escort. (for safety) 4 riders w/2 pack horses.
It was Tim & Lynn Tuggle, with two teen kids, riding from coast to coast. They left Bakersfield, Cali 2 years ago and are heading to the Carolina coast on a Christian Mission. The attention they draw along the way allows them to meet folks and spread their message. They've been with us for a few of days and it has been our pleasure. We gave them use of the stalls & such, and threw in a little farrier work. The kids insist on helping with barn chores, and are washing and brushing the hair off our stock.
google Tim & Lynn Tuggle to read about them. If they come your way, put 'em up for a bit. You won't regret it. They are wonderful people. All they hope for is a place for the horses to be tied out and a place to open their cots. (preferably out of the rain, but not necessarily)

I would get saddle -sore!!! Very interesting. I found this article, but it doesn't say anything about the kids, so I guess they onlyare joining for the last part.

Tim is a carpenter and Lynn is a nurse. They stopped for some time in tornado devastated Joplin,MO to help out. The teens are "horsey" children of a Christian couple that hosted the Tuggles during their stint in Joplin. They are home-schooled sharp youngun's. They begged and pleaded to tag along on the jouney as long as possible and their folks finally agreed. The Tuggles have temporary custodianship of the kids for legal and medical purposes.
Tim is a very good horseman; he rescues horses along the way and breaks and trains them along the trip, then sells them as well broke trail horses to finance their expenses along the way.
These people are "Salt of the Earth". I'm very glad I got to meet them.

Ain't about me... these folks are "the real deal". When they asked where I lived, they told me that they slept under a bridge a mile from my house the night before. When they were riding across TX last summer it got up to 115 deg, and they had to put the dog (Chico) on a pack horse because his feet were getting burned. They stayed at a ranch in New Mexico where Chico lived, and he spent all his time around Tim, instead of his owner. When the Tuggles rode out Chico kept looking at them, and back at his owner. Finally the owner said, "Well, go ahead", and Chico was gone. When they are sleeping you can't get within half a mile of them without Chico waking Tim up. The entire saga is better than a Hollywood movie.

Why haven't i read about these people?
I have read about the scum bag who sired 30 kids from 12 women and is trying to get his child support reduced...........maybe the judge should have him riding behind these fine folks raking up poop?!

The Tuggle Party rode out this morning. They were going to leave yesterday but the little girl was under the weather so they stayed over to make sure she was OK. (our barn is 2 blocks from a Level 1 Trauma Center) It'll take them a couple of days to reach Covington,IN where Tim & Lynn's family are. They'll hole-up there for a while, then head on. What a blessing to meet these folks.
Someone that they met along the way showed up at our barn shortly after their arrival with some hay. We're going to do the same as they get further down the road... kind of a "pay it forward" thing. Can't take much because they don't stay one place very long, and have no way of taking much excess with them. Heck, might do it a couple times... they are good company and it makes us feel good to be part of their journey.
Lynn Tuggle has a facebook page that gives updates on their mission, but only when they can get time & access.

It's a comfort to know as the economy grows worse and if I lose my house, I can bunk in the JS barn!!! thumbsup thumbsup thumbsup I'll earn my keep by coming over to the house and making some Johnny cakes for breakfast on ocassion!

This story balances out the rotten SOB's that stole the Delaware equipment......just when you think the world has gone off it's axis, you get a warm fuzzy like this, thank you JS for giving me a much needed feel good that the world isn't as horrible as it seems.

We live in a political environment where a lot of time, energy, and money is spent finding ways to divide us, having the result of eroding our belief in the inherent goodness of our neighbors. A story like this refreshes my spirit. Thanks, JS.

I had a Facebook squabble the other day with a woman who proclaimed there weren't any good horsemen and she was one! I argued with her there were actually more good than bad......she said, "where?"....I then pointed out the man who posted right above her had spent countless hours caring for horses stranded last summer at Tioga due to the flooding.....there is no less or more, good and bad people involved in horse racing than there is in the general population.......but all anyone wants to elaborate on is how horrible everyone is........whatever happened to, "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all?' idunno
