I can't remember seeing this before, but maybe I am just getting senile. There is a WO10000 race at Cal Expo on Friday night with post positions assigned. Albion has been pretty dominant with these horses here, so in a 6-horse field he will be scoring from the 10 hole, far outside. PP 6,7,8,9 will be vacant. I can't remember ever seeing this before cause I know it would look strange at the start and be something to remember. Anyone ever see this type of start before?

Nope, but I have seen the outside horse score wider out than he drew many times. I would guess that will change and he will slide inside behind the gate.

I remember Cal Expo doing this way back when. If I recall correctly, it was either Gee Gee Digger or Hi Ho Silverheels. I remember betting on him because he was tons the best on paper, but he got up and won by only a nose despite the weird post. I'm pretty sure it was Gee Gee Digger.

They have done it quite often in the past. Gee Gee Digger was one, but there have been several others more recently.

Yes. At various tracks over the years. Only way they can get any entries to run against the super dominate horse.

I guess I should pay more attention to Cal Expo. To me it seems it would be more of an advantage than disadvantage. Going downhill with no one pushing you for a few positions inside.

Can't remember the horses name, but there was a super trotter at Balm years back that had to start on the outside in the Invite with all the others (sometimes only 4) started on the inside. He was so much better than the rest that there was no handle on the other horses without it. After he won anyway they refused his entries after that and he moved east.

Cal Expo has done it before for sure.Cant remember when though. Too many beers.

I remember this too. I think it was Im Damn Goog maybe? Definitely a trotter. Giss, Im Damn Goog is easily confused with Gee Gee Digger in name so I wouldn't swear by it but I do remember it being a trotter - maybe 6 or so years ago.

You may be thinking of Red Rhone. He was handicapped the 9 post at least once against 4 or 5 others. Didn't matter. he still won.

And if I'm not mistaken it was on Spks 5/8 that they did this with Red Rhone. idunno
I have seen this at Cal Expo many times in the past.

Yep, it was Red Rhone I was thinking of.

I never said it was a good idea, just that they did it. Little Steven was another one that would get handicapped outside by four posts.
