I thought I would share this with the Derby upcoming.
The perfect mint julep recipe. In a glass, make a simple syrup of one tablespoon sugar and one ounce water. Muddle four fresh mint leaves and stir into the simple syrup. In a separate, tall (not rocks) glass, pour 2 oz. of high quality bourbon. Fill tall glass with shaved or chipped ice. Discard glass of mint and simple syrup mixture. Drink and enjoy the second glass.

I am not much of a drinker let alone a connosiseur of any drink but The Mint Julep is the most disgusting (insert vomicus emoticon) thing I ever drank.

I would skip the ice. Adding a small amount of water, like maybe a teaspoon to the bourbon might inhance the flavor, or not. Experiment.

I took a sip of a Mint Julep and was glad someone else paid for it. I handed it back and avoided them ever since.

Here is another tip for you guys---avoid the 80 proof swill. That is made for women. 90 proof is a treshold 100 proof or higher, is prefered. You only can take so many drinks in your life. Why waste any of them?
